In this vital role you will be a member of the Global Cost Accounting team that is responsible for the consolidation and analysis of the global inventory and cost of sales. The Manager will also perform the inventory accounting for certain Amgen manufacturing sites. The manager will be accountable to manage and review the work of the outsourced provider that supports this team.
Preferably, the Manager is familiar with international accounting and intercompany process and has prior cost accounting experience. Amgen has a large international footprint and does business in over 75 countries. As a global biopharmaceutical company with over $20 billion in revenue, the Company’s Cost Accounting matters include high value intangibles, mergers and acquisitions, licensing transactions, complex manufacturing, financing transactions, and research and development activities.
Perform and review sophisticated journal entries, general ledger account analysis and reconciliation for both SAP and consolidation tool.
Prepare and review audit schedules and answer questions from internal and external auditors.
Preparation and review of highly developed financial schedules such as footnote, month-end flash reports, accounting memos and other ad hoc schedules, as required by the supervisor.
May lead and review accounting control functions and reporting requirements such as: inventory reserves, pre-approval manufacturing, standard costing including absorption tests, excess capacity analysis among other.
Special projects to improve accounting processes including digital projects.
Consolidate, analyze and report global inventory balances by product/site and perform detailed monthly variance analysis.
Work closely with local Finance to help execute Amgen’s operational strategy.
Calculate and record intercompany profit-in-inventory (PII) eliminations monthly to ensure compliance with US GAAP.
Support quarterly SOX process certification by compiling, sampling and reviewing control documentation.
Participate in the annual standard costing process and ad hoc standard costing updates as required by the manufacturing and distribution sites.
Actively support Amgen key business initiatives that impact Cost Accounting processes.
Perform all assigned monthly accounting close activities including inventory, inventory reserves, pre-approval, excess capacity analysis and manufacturing variances analysis, and journal entries.
Interact with Amgen senior and mid-level management.
Strong internal control focus in handling business issues of significance to Corporate Accounting.
Actively seek opportunities to streamline assigned processes and cross-train with peers.
Assist in project management activities and ad hoc analysis as required.
Perform inventory accounting for certain Amgen manufacturing sites.
Will be accountable to manage and review the work of an outsourced provider that supports this team.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree
Or
Master’s degree and 2 years of experience in general accounting
Or
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience in general accounting
Or
Associate's degree and 8 years of experience in general accounting
Or
High school diploma/GED and 10 years of experience in general accounting
Preferred Qualifications:
Educational background in Accounting or Finance
Dynamic accounting/finance experience including corporate level public company experience
Profit in Inventory (PII) Elimination process and accounting transaction experience in physical vs financial inventory flow.
CPA, Audit, Public Accounting experience
Experience in driving and implementing change
Experience managing outsource partner relationship
Experience in financial system implementation
Experience in US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Foreign Currency transaction accounting and understanding concepts to translate into mentorship for financial reporting
Experience in other functional accounting areas (i.e., intercompany, cash, investments)
Detail orientated; strong business analytical and data analysis skills
Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills (English and Spanish)
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage multiple deliverable
Influence at all levels including senior management, functions and geographies
Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment
Drives Results – Sets compelling goals and aggressive schedules for improvement while remaining flexible in a constantly evolving environment
Digital literacy including spreadsheet software, Blackline, ServiceNow and SAP
Financial business understanding

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
