Job Title: Accounting Technician - Cashier
Department: Utility Billing / Finance
Classification:Non-Exempt
Hiring Range:$24.27/hour - $27.61/hour
Salary Range:$24.27/hour - $37.01/hour
Position Summary: Primary workload and responsibilities are to receive and enter all Utility Billing payments. Responsible for cash receipts for multiple departments within the organization and also supports Finance with walk-in customers around tax and other payments.Performs a variety of entry-level accounting and clerical duties consistent with the organization's values and mission statement.
Supervision Exercised and Received: Position works under the supervision of the Revenue Manager and Utility Billing Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions:
Cashier
•Primary responsibilities are accepting and processing all Utility Billing payments, reversals, refunds and adjustments. Payments to be processed include in-person, mailed checks, and electronic payment files.
•Coordinate move in/move out process for utility billing customers.
•Coordinate and process tap fees, development review fees, and WELS (water efficiency landscaping standards) fees.
•Processes and enters all cash receipts from city departments on a daily basis. Makes daily bank deposits and posts cash receipts to the general ledger. Checks that all receipts are balanced with daily sales and transactions.Processes Real Estate Transfer Tax (RETT) payments and records log of monthly receipts.
Customer Service and Reception
•Takes cash and in person payments for utilities. Assists with general utilities questions.
•Backs up the Administrative Specialist to serve as a contact for the Finance Department. Assists other departments in dealing with customer issues related to parking tickets, court fines and general inquiries. Answers the telephone and responds to the public and internal customers with general information.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: One year of experience with accounting, bookkeeping, or administrative duties.
Technical Knowledge: Must be proficient in the following areas: Microsoft Outlook Email, Microsoft Office Suite Software, 10-Key and a basic understanding of computers and online computer-based technology applications, which includes accessing web based platforms.
Licenses & Certifications:
Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date.
NOTE: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements above.
NOTE:This position requires a Criminal Background Check upon hire.Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Criminal Background Check.

•Regular full time, hours may vary with workload.
