The Midtown Academy, Inc. is seeking an experienced and visionary leader who is passionate about education to serve as Executive Director.
Midtown’s Executive Director will work in partnership with our principal to realize Midtown’s mission: uniting diverse communities, igniting an enduring passion for learning, and creating outstanding global citizens.
This leader will balance the requirements, policies, and procedures of the Baltimore City Public School System with the fiduciary responsibility of running a small, non-profit organization. The Executive Director will be skilled at managing change and planning for the school’s expansion.
A successful candidate will exhibit a solid ability to form constructive working relationships with a volunteer Board of Directors, oversee day-to-day operations while maintaining frequent, positive interactions with students, staff, and families.
Midtown’s Executive Director plays a pivotal role in shaping and implementing the school's mission.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic communicator and a strategic planner who is motivated, goal-oriented, thoughtful, and approachable.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & Fundraising:
Lead the revision and implementation of the school's strategic plan, aligning financial resources with academic goals.
Identify and pursue grant opportunities, partnerships, and sponsorships.
Develop and lead fundraising initiatives to secure financial support for the school's mission.
Cultivate relationships with donors, funders, and other stakeholders.
Operations and Facilities Management:
Work collaboratively with the school principal to manage partnerships and negotiate contracts with vendors.
Develop and implement a plan for Midtown’s expansion, including a building move in approximately two years.
Manage facilities needs and improvements at current building and future building, including resource development and allocation, and project management.
Financial Leadership:
Implement and oversee all financial policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations including the contract with the charter authorizer.
Develop and manage the annual operator’s budget, monitor performance, and make adjustments as needed.
Oversee financial reporting to the Board of Directors and other stakeholders.
Approve financial transactions within established policies, bylaws, and contractual expectations.
Work with the external auditor to conduct the annual audit.
Community Engagement:
Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with parents, students, staff, and the broader community.
Along with the Principal, act as a spokesperson and advocate for the school, promoting its mission and achievements to stakeholders, local authorities, and the public.
Promote public understanding and support for the school's programs, services, and transition plan.
Maintain professional associations with local, state, and federal organizations.
Board Relations:
Collaborate with the Board of Directors, providing regular updates, seeking input, and aligning activities with the overall vision and goals of the school.
Support the Board of Directors in governance, policy development, and strategic planning.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of experience within a non-profit organization, with at least 3 years in a financial or leadership position. Strong preference for leadership and/or administrative experience in an education setting.
Master's degree in Education, Non-Profit Management, Environmental Sciences, Business Administration, Accounting/Finance, or related fields is preferred.
Experience with grant writing, fundraising, and budgeting.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Ability to build and sustain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Commitment to the mission and values of non-profit charter schools. Knowledge of charter school regulations and policies is a plus.
Compensation:
Salary:
The Midtown Academy, Inc. Executive Director position is a full-time, salaried position that may include evenings and weekend engagements. The salary range for the position, commensurate with experience, is $90,000-$100,000.
Benefits:
Benefits include a flexible (hybrid) work schedule, 2 weeks of paid vacation, 10 sick days, and federal and state holidays following the Baltimore City Public Schools schedule.
