GEICO's Cybersecurity organization has an exciting opportunity for an accomplished Staff Engineer - Cybersecurity Data Share. This individual will play a key role within GEICO's Cybersecurity Data Security, Protection, and Privacy team, with a focus on data risk management.

Position Description:

Our Staff Engineer - Cybersecurity Data Share is responsible for leading the organization's efforts to identify, assess, and evaluate potential vulnerabilities and threats to the organization's information systems, networks, and sensitive data. This includes conducting regular data risk assessments, recommending controls, and countermeasures to mitigate identified risks, and monitoring the effectiveness of the implemented security measures. This role also acts as an expert and mentor for other data risk assessors in the organization and may be involved in developing and managing the overall data security and protection program.

Position Responsibilities

As a Staff Engineer, you will:

  • Lead and conduct regular data risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities and threats to the organization's information systems and networks
  • Analyze and evaluate the potential impact of identified vulnerabilities and threats on the organization's operations and sensitive data
  • Develop and implement controls and countermeasures to mitigate or eliminate identified vulnerabilities and threats, such as software patching, configuration changes, and security controls
  • Develop and maintain data security policies, procedures, standards, and ensure that they are followed by the entire organization
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the implemented security measures and conduct regular testing to identify new vulnerabilities or threats that may have emerged
  • Provide regular reports to relevant stakeholders, including management and IT teams, on the organization's cybersecurity risks and the effectiveness of the implemented security measures
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including IT and business units, to understand the organization's risk appetite and develop risk management strategies that align with business objectives
  • Keep abreast of new developments in the field of cybersecurity and ensure that the organization's risk assessment and data security processes are aligned with industry standards and best practices
  • Act as an expert and mentor for other data risk engineers in the organization, providing guidance and support on risk assessment methodologies, techniques, and best practices
  • Manage and supervise the work of other data risk engineers, including reviewing and approving their work when needed
  • Develop and manage the overall risk assessment and data security programs, including setting goals, objectives, and metrics for the program
  • Represent the organization in external meetings and interactions with clients, stakeholders, and other industry experts
  • Qualifications:
  • Experience leading and conducting risk assessments and developing risk management strategies
  • Experience with designing and implementing data security solutions for enterprise environments
  • Experience in managing and supervising other data risk engineers
  • Experience in developing and managing risk assessment programs
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Knowledge of data security frameworks, standards, and protocols such as ISO 27001, NIST, and CIS
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and data privacy regulations such as HIPPA, Gramm-Leach-Bliley, NYDFS, CPRA, etc.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively communicate with management and other stakeholders
  • Ability to excel in fast-paced, startup-like environment
One or more of the following cybersecurity certifications are highly desired:
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
  • Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)
Experience:
  • 6+ years of experience in cybersecurity and risk assessment
  • 4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks
  • 3+ years of experience with architecture and design
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
Annual Salary
$115,000.00 - $230,000.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
