Under general supervision of the Public Works Director, operates equipment, hand labor, semi skilled & skilled tasks. Operates various sized dump trucks, street sweeper, rubber-tired loader, vac truck, tractors, swap loader truck, skid steer, back hoe, knuckle boom and any other specialty equipment in a variety of construction tasks. (vibra tamp, concrete, air compressor, jackhammer, roller (hand & power) straw blower, etc. Performs litter control, street and ROW Maintenance, etc.
Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
Operates vehicles, equipment and tools (hand or power tools) necessary to perform various Construction and maintenance projects. Operates projects consistent of Street Maintenance (paving issues, street sweeping); drainage (excavation, installation, restoration.); signage (installation according to M.U.T.C.D. standards.); right of way issues (shoulder repairs, flail/push mowing, trimming, chipper service.); sanitation; spread rock / gravel / asphalt on roadways; snow removal spreading salt/sand mixture, operate snowplows; emergency response (Accident scene, snow storms, manual labor as assigned in an emergency); Inspection of vehicles and equipment to determine if they are safe and in good operating condition. (Lights/ signals, brakes, tire pressure, mirrors, fluid levels, etc...); preventive maintenance (washing, lubricating, lights/signals checks, etc...); equipment placement (parked in proper place under storage sheds, hand tools put away.);
General grounds maintenance public works, use of any/all hand tools/ hand powered equipment.
Minimum qualifications & Requirements
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduating from high school or GED; possession of a valid Tennessee driver's license with a CDL preferred or the ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months of date of employment.
Supplemental information
The employee will operate weed eater, lawn mower, shovel, chain saw, chipper and various hand tools. The employee will also operate light and heavy-duty vehicles. Operates various sized dump trucks, street sweeper, rubber-tired loader, vac truck, tractors, knuckle boom, swap loader, skid steer, back hoe and other specialty equipment in a variety of construction tasks (vibra tamp, concrete, air compressor, jackhammer, roller (hand & power) straw blower, etc.) Performs litter control, cemetery maintenance ROW Maintenance, etc.
Work performed is generally outdoors and some tasks may be performed regardless of weather conditions when necessary. The employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, and loud noises.
