This is a role where you will work in a TEAM environment, where safety comes first.SUMMARY OF POSITION:This position is accountable for the design and construction/purchase of manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, jigs, and fixturing and operating, maintaining, and upgrading the facilities and utilities for the Division's manufacturing facilities in Alexandria, LA. It is also responsible for assistance to Production personnel in use and re-qualification of UTC fixtures, as well as assistance and guidance in the fabrication of unusual parts. Along with the Manufacturing Engineering responsibility this position also has Plant responsibilities of assisting plant maintenance in expanding, evaluating, procuring, installing, maintaining, upgrading and/or replacing the plant product equipment, including associated training and cost control to enable manufacturing to produce tank cars, efficiently, economically, and safely.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe engineering work of the incumbent is designing and specifying tools, equipment, and fixtures to optimize manufacturing and fabrication of quality tank cars at competitive costs. Additionally, the work will involve repair of existing machines or the acquisition of new machines including the development of plans and specifications for expanding production capacity and implementing said plans. The incumbent will be required to investigate new processes and equipment, prepare plans, and specifications for said process or equipment, solicit, and review bids, write appropriation request, design, and oversee installation including start up and de-bugging of said process or equipment for the production of tank cars. In order to perform the essential functions of the job, the incumbent must possess, the following skills and abilities:Willingness to travel outside of the normal place of work, via car, train and airplaneAbility to climb to the top and walk on tank cars, climb to top of plant buildings, crane runways, and various other equipment without fear of heights with appropriate safety equipmentAbility to bend, stretch, and crawl in a dusty or smoky environment to perform inspections in the plantDesign, select and implement manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, machinery, utilities, facilities and procedures required to manufacture tank carsWork with existing manufacturing methods and procedures and seek to improve processes and equipment to reduce costs, improve quality, and provide superior efficiencyAbility to work and communicate with all manufacturing and concerned service departments to prevent or minimize production interruptionsParticipate in and actively support Quality projects and activities and Responsible Care initiatives to ensure the Company achieves its goalsEDUCATION/EXPERIENCERequires a bachelor's degree in engineering, with a solid combination of mechanical, machinery, manufacturing methods, controls knowledge and Project ManagementStrong computer skills and excellent knowledge of CAD softwareDISCLAIMER:Please note the duties listed are not set forth for purposes of limiting the assignment of work.
