Responsibilities:The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) / Phlebotomist, under the direction of a Licensed Practitioner, Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides basic nursing care and assists with activities of daily living and performs skilled and accurate blood collection procedures to a designated group of healthcare consumers. In addition, creates an organized work environment that is conducive to efficient workflow for the clinical staff. Provides services which encompass the spiritual, physiological, social, and psychological aspects of care of the sick, prevention of disease, or conservation of health. The position contributes to the mission and core values of CHI Health.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
- Under the direction and supervision of the Licensed Practitioner, RN or LPN, participates in the nursing process which includes: assess, plan, implement, and evaluate. The nursing process is an ongoing process that can end at any stage.
- Assessment - Contributes to the assessment of the health status of the healthcare consumer.
- Plan Contributes to the plan of care through observation, data collection and communication of findings to the appropriate member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Implement Provides basic patient care activities based on the plan of care and as delegated.
- Evaluate Contributes to the evaluation of the healthcare consumer by observing responses to interventions and communicating findings to the appropriate member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Transports, collects, receives and prepares biological specimens for all age groups of patients for analysis using procedures consistent with safe work practices and proper laboratory techniques, while maintaining the integrity of the specimens.
- Organizes and prioritizes workload for the most efficient, accurate, and timely collection and processing of specimens in order to meet quality standards of laboratory testing.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
Required Education for Staff Job Levels
A minimum of high school degree or equivalent is required.
Required Licensure and Certifications
Must be listed on a Nurse Assistant Registry operated by the North Dakota Board of Nursing, State Department and consolidated Laboratories by the North Dakota Board of Nursing, If not on a registry, then must obtain placement on one immediately following orientation and training by St. Alexius Medical Center as stated in the policy Eligibility for Employment as Nurse Assistant.
Basic Life Support is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications American Heart Association: Basic Life Support.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of current Nursing Assistant scope of practice, critical thinking skills, professional verbal and written communication skills, technical/computer skills, attention to detail, customer service skills, adaptability, maintain confidentiality
PREFERRED Qualifications
Phlebotomy certification or completion of phlebotomy course
