NEEDED: Phlebotomy Technician
LOCATION: 101 Federal Drive, Welch, WV 24801
SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday (except for Federal holidays), normally between the hours of 7:30AM - 4:00PM, Not to exceed 40 hours per week.

QUALIFICATION:
- Preferred education: National Phlebotomy Certificate from a recognized accrediting agency.
- Must possess a current West Virginia state certification as a Phlebotomist, CMA, or Medical Lab Tech
- Hold an active CPR certification.
- Shall have a basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology, the overall organization and operations of a laboratory, as well as in-depth knowledge of specimen collection tools.
- Physical Experience: 1 Year of phlebotomy experience.
- Must possess the required knowledge, skills, ability, and experience to ensure that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of clinical laboratory operations
- Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and techniques
- Skills in obtaining blood specimens from patients under a variety of patient conditions
- Skills in accurately recording information concerning specimens
- Skills in interpreting and communicating written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to pass a security background clearance.
- Must pass a credit check (this is not based on score, but rather regards negative accounts currently in collections in which a payment arrangement has been made and a minimum of two (2) payments have been made on the arrangement.
- All duties will be performed in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the field of Phlebotomy, including all standards and regulations associated with the Federal Bureau of Prisons Healthcare Services and the American Correctional Association Standards/Core Standards for Adult Correctional Institutions, as well as Federal and State policies and regulations.
- Collect laboratory specimens by venipuncture or skin puncture from patients for analysis or other medical purposes.
- Adhere to the administrative guidelines of the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, and Bureau of Prisons Polices as it relates.
- Collect blood samples from patients for laboratory testing. This will include performing urinalysis, occult blood on fecal smears, finger stick blood sugars and other tests identified by CLIA regulations as being waived.
- Receive and organize requests for blood collection, and package specimens for shipping to reference laboratories.
- Distribute blood to proper laboratory section after collection for testing. Scanning all results into the patient's electronic medical records upon receipt.
- Gather supplies and equipment necessary for collection of blood samples.
- Ensure requests for additional supplies are provided to Health Services Administrator or their designee.
- Assemble equipment, such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work trays, according to requirements for specified test or procedures.
- Keep blood collection area and phlebotomy trays clean and restocked for future use.
- Record blood collection statistics for documentation as required, to include monthly cost adjudication purposes.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports on IOP and submit the reports to the IOP coordinator if required.
- Strict adherence to safety and infection control procedures is required at all times. This will include quality assurance checks and preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment as well as maintaining a record of tests and checks performed.
