Position Summary

The Equine Sports Medicine Unit at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Colorado State University is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Assistant to support our team of specialists. In this dynamic role, youll assist in the care and rehabilitation of top-tier equine competitors, contributing to their peak performance and recovery. If you have a love for horses, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to excellence, saddle up and join us in advancing equine sports medicine!

The Equine Sports Medicine ( ESM ) Veterinary Assistant I (VA1) triages, assesses, monitors, treats, evaluates, and coordinates care of injured equines under the guidance of higher-level Veterinary Technicians and Clinicians. This role frequently travels to client sites to provide clinical. The VA1 will also provide didactic instruction to professional veterinary medical students, interns, residents, technicians, graduate veterinarians, and others in specialty areas.

This is an essential worker position and must be willing and able to report to work as directed to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay or interruption.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Required Job Qualifications

+ HS Diploma or GED plus one (1) year of experience caring for animals or providing animal handling duties OR a combination of related education and/or experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position equal to one (1) year.

+ Must have excellent horse-handling skills.

+ The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

+ Must have a valid drivers license, or the ability to obtain a drivers license by the employment start date.

Preferred Job Qualifications

+ Attention to detail, organization and ability to learn clinician and client preferences (i.e. processes, mode of communication, procedures).

+ Bachelors Degree or graduation from an Equine Veterinary Technology program.

+ Previous veterinary technician and/or radiology technician experience.

+ Outstanding customer service and communication skills.

+ Experience in equine rehabilitation treatments.
