We are looking for a passionate and experienced journalist to lead our Sequim Gazette news team. As Editor of this award-winning publication, the successful journalist will play a pivotal role in shaping the editorial vision for multimedia and print storytelling, and drive impact through diverse news coverage with an emphasis on breaking news and deep-dive journalism. Responsibilities: Lead and inspire a team of reporters to produce high-quality multimedia news and feature stories on a daily basis. Develop and implement editorial strategies that align with the publication’s mission and values. Innovation and an understanding of the audience behaviors is a must. Collaborate with the publisher to plan and execute editorial initiatives, special projects and coverage priorities. Manage the day-to-day operations of the newsroom, including assigning and editing stories, setting deadlines and ensuring adherence to journalistic standards and ethics. Foster a culture of innovation, excellence and continuous improvement within the editorial team. Provide adequate feedback, coaching, and professional mentorship to journalists of varying skillsets, as needed. Stay abreast of local, national and international news developments, as well as emerging technologies and best practices in journalism, to inform editorial decision-making and strategy. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field. 5 years of experience in news reporting, with a proven track record of editorial leadership and management. Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy. Extensive knowledge of AP Style. Deep understanding of journalistic principles, ethics, and standards, as well as digital-focused storytelling. Videography and digital broadcast storytelling is an asset. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Proficiency in digital publishing tools, content management systems and social media platforms. Knowledge and experience working for a subscription-based publication is an asset.
