The University of Virginia School of Law seeks an Assistant or Associate Director of Financial Aid to join the Office of Financial Aid, Education and Planning. The Office of Financial Aid, Education, and Planning comprises a small yet formidable team of three. We are currently seeking to add an Assistant or Associate Director of Financial Aid to our ranks. As a dynamic and close-knit group, we're committed to delivering exceptional service by equipping students with the financial knowledge and resources necessary to make informed decisions throughout their law school journeys.
The position will be filled at either the Assistant or Associate Director level depending on the candidate's education and experience and will report directly to the Assistant Dean of Financial Aid, Education and Planning. Either role is a non-supervisory position that presents an outstanding opportunity for someone looking to enhance their financial aid expertise within a growth-oriented department. The position requires most work to be performed in person at the Law School, with the opportunity to perform a limited amount of work remotely in accordance with Law School policy.
Assistant Director responsibilities include:
- Counsel existing and prospective law students on financial aid programs, eligibility criteria, deadlines, and application procedures.
- Assist in awarding federal, state, institutional, and private sources of financial aid to students within appropriate guidelines and regulations.
- Respond to incoming financial aid calls, emails, and walk-in requests.
- Receive and carefully review financial aid forms and supporting documents to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Scan and index a variety of documents and communications into imaging software.
- Maintain department's external scholarship database.
- Remain up to date on financial aid regulations, policies, procedures and financial counseling through self-directed professional reading, participation in professional development courses, and networking with professional contacts in the financial aid arena.
- Ensure compliance in the packaging and timely disbursement of funds, including processing financial aid appeals, monitoring Satisfactory Academic Progress, and completing R2T4 calculations.
- Partner with the Director of Financial Aid in running UVA Law's Virginia Loan Forgiveness Program.
- Conduct student loan entrance and exit counseling sessions and assist with group presentations and webinars.
- Provide personalized, individual counseling to students on financial issues such as budgeting, loan repayment, and overall financial literacy.
This position will be filled at either the Assistant or Associate Director level depending on the candidate's education and experience.
Candidates for the Assistant Director
- Bachelor's degree and at least two years of higher education financial aid experience; relevant experience can substitute for the degree.
- Bachelor's degree and at least four years of progressively responsible higher education financial aid experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal Title IV financial aid programs, awarding eligibility requirements, and supporting regulations.
- Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills who enjoys engaging with students.
- Committed to providing quality assistance to a diverse student population.
- Process-oriented and able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong technical skills with Microsoft Office suite.
Salary for either role will depend on the candidate's qualifications (experience, education, and skills) and internal and market factors. The anticipated hiring range is $ 58,656 to $80,000 per year.
This is a full-time University Staff Managerial and Professional staff position with benefits . This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
