The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County ("BXDA") is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By "Pursuing Justice with Integrity," the BXDA places a focus on assistance for crime victims while simultaneously ensuring fairness to defendants. Moreover, the BXDA aims to balance the need to seek appropriate punishment for certain crimes while recognizing when punitive measures do not adequately advance justice. By recognizing these significant distinctions and acting accordingly, the BXDA has established a standard of excellence in the representation of the Bronx community at large, which continues to grow stronger every day.

In furtherance of this mission, the BXDA seeks an experienced and enthusiastic Recruitment Specialist who has familiarity with recruitment efforts in municipal settings, preferably within New York City. Working under the direction of the Chief of Human Resources, with some latitude for independent judgment, the Recruitment Specialist will be responsible for all facets of initiating, tracking and processing pre-selected candidates and will serve as a public face of the BXDA in recruitment efforts. The Recruitment Specialist will play an integral role in securing the most qualified candidates available.

Job Responsibilities:

The BXDA is recruiting Staff Analysts to function as Recruitment Specialists. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Coordination of BXDA recruitment efforts from posting of job through ultimate selection of candidates.

Liaison with academic institutions to schedule interviews of student candidates and develop effective recruitment methods to attract students.

Act as the primary point of contact for candidate-specific issues.

Develop and organize materials for interviews using the Applicant Tracking System. (will this resource still be utilized?)

Attend job fairs for the purpose of recruiting candidates.

Educate and train BXDA interviewers on best interview practices.

Moderate and participate in interviews to ensure a fair and equitable process.

Assist in the coordination of the Summer Intern Program, as well as other similar programs, including event planning, work assignment allocation, as well as processing work evaluations and final performance reviews.

Input data into the BXDA Applicant Tracking System, schedule interviews, maintain regular contact with preferred candidates and prepare offer letters.

Assist in the preparation of professional hiring statistics, update recruitment surveys and related materials which are to be presented to senior staff, as needed.

Utilize PRISE for the purpose of soliciting civil service certifications, research employment history and enter civil service certification dispositions.

Process electronic DP-72 and DP-189(s) transactions.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. A master's degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in economics, finance, accounting, business or public administration, human resources management, management science, operations research, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, statistics, personnel administration, labor relations, psychology, sociology, human resources development, political science, urban studies or a closely related field; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and two years of satisfactory full-time professional experience working in one or a combination of the following areas: working with the budget of a large public or private concern in budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration, or fiscal or economic research; or in management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research or program evaluation; or in personnel or public administration, recruitment, position classification, personnel relations, labor relations, employee benefits, staff development, employment program planning/administration, labor market research, economic planning, social services program planning/evaluation or fiscal management; or in a related area.
Special Note:
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, one additional year of professional experience as described in "2" above.

Additional Information

Preferred Skills:
  • A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three (3) years of recruitment experience, preferably within a municipal setting or inside a civic or community organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of citywide electronic database systems, such as PRISE, NYCAPS, PMS and CHRMS.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in the use of Adobe Pro, Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Strong and demonstrable skills in relationship-building and candidate sourcing.
  • Strong and demonstrable skills in database management and record-keeping.

Salary: $75,000-82,000

Note: MUST BE A STAFF ANALYST TO APPLY (EITHER PERMANENT OR REACHABLE ON THE CIVIL SERVICE LIST). Those serving in comparable civil service titles will also be considered.
