Minimum Requirements:
The purpose of this position is to provide a wide range of professional legal services to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, City departments, and various boards and commissions of the City of Peoria. Currently, the General Counsel Section is assigned specific departments for purposes of primary representation. These include, but are not limited to, the following departments: Planning and Community Development; Finance; Engineering and Development; and Community Services. Additionally, the representation includes various Boards and Commissions.

Minimum Requirements:
- Education: Juris Doctorate from American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school
- Experience: Minimum of one-year related experience. Requires broad knowledge of complex systems and procedures.
- Membership in good standing in the State Bar of Arizona.
- One year experience in a municipal or government setting providing economic development and real estate land use legal advice to a local, state, or federal government or government agency, either as internal counsel or as outside counsel, or to a private entity in private practice.
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
- Strong interest in land use, economic development, real estate, and related legal topics at the municipal level.
- Ability to review and draft complex transactional documents in areas including, but not limited to, environmental law, public utility law, land use, real property and conveyance, telecommunications and cable service providers, public rights of way, eminent domain, water rights, and zoning.
- Familiarity with the Gift Clause of the Arizona Constitution.

Currently, the General Counsel Section is assigned specific departments for purposes of primary representation. These include, but are not limited to, the following departments: Planning and Community Development; Finance; Engineering and Development; and Community Services. Additionally, the representation includes various Boards and Commissions.
This position will provide the following legal services:
- Economic development and real estate land use legal advice to City officials and departments.
- Negotiating and drafting complex contracts and other agreements involving issues including, but not limited to, environmental law, public utility law, land use, real property and conveyance, telecommunications and cable service providers, public rights of way, eminent domain, water rights, and zoning.
- General civil legal advice and analysis related to all aspects of City operations.
- Reviewing records and providing legal advice regarding the processing of public records requests, including necessary and appropriate redactions.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
