Assists with year-end auditing and quarterly financial reporting for the District, develops administrative processes and procedures and establishes and maintains financial files and records. Senior Accountant will also compile, account for, analyze and administer program costs and budgets in compliance with Federal and State Statutes, and district policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Coordinates or assists in the preparation and compilation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the district. Assists external auditors in locating records and fiscal information. Prepares and updates the Long Term Debt Schedules for the year end audit. Maintains records of bond sales and oversees the semi-annual principal and interest payments. Assists in monitoring and reconciling accounts and makes required corrections and/or adjustments. Develops processes and procedures to reconcile accounts and trains departmental staff in these processes and procedures. Create procedure manuals for the processes developed and keep current manuals updated as processes change. Balances the payroll module to the general ledger on a daily basis, prepares 941 payroll tax deposits and quarterly reports and balances W-2's with 941's at year end. Prepares the monthly payroll bank reconciliation. Provide backup support for ERA reporting and reconcile ERA deductions and payments to the general ledger monthly. Acts as a backup in the preparation of PED quarterly reports. Perform higher level Lawson functions - closing periods, creating funds, creating accounts, creating encumbrances, etc. Prepares accounting records for data needed by district employees. Assists the Operational Controller in general ledger maintenance of accounts, accounting units and funds. Assists the Operational Controller in the preparation and maintenance of accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, district policy and administrative regulations. Assists Operational Controller and Information Technology Services in developing and revising programs related to the Accounting Department functions. Serves on various committees, boards and panels as assigned by the Operational Controller. Accepts assignments and delegation of authority from Operational Controller as requested. PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Flexibility and effective organizational, decision-making, analytical and problem-solving skills. Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone. Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and follow through. Ability to work closely with detail, be accurate and keep complete and organized books and records. Knowledge of the structure and functioning of school districts and/or state and local government and legislative processes, or experience working in a government environment. Knowledge or experience in working with the Lawson Financial System. Knowledge or experience in governmental accounting, auditing and financial reporting, accounting practices and procedures. Ability to research, analyze and interpret legislation, rules and regulations; and to write policies and procedures. REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor degree in accounting, business, management or related field or degree in other field with a minimum of 30 hours of accounting credits, or 60 credit hours in a related field and 8 years directly related experience. Five (5) years of experience in administering, coordinating or managing multiple and diverse programs or projects involving accounting, auditing, financial management and legal compliance including at least two (2) years in a state, local government or school district environment. Skilled in using Microsoft Office products, especially Access, Excel and Word Knowledge and experience in working with automated accounting and financial systems.
