Our mission is to create successful homeowners in our community, and we are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Finance and Operations team.
Position Mission:
As a Senior Accountant, you will play a crucial role in assisting the CFO, Controller, and designated teams in implementing effective fiscal strategies and maintaining accurate financial records. Your expertise will support our mission of providing affordable homeownership solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Strategic Fiscal Support:
Assist in developing and implementing fiscal strategies that align with organizational goals. Corporate Accounting:
Perform daily accounting functions, manage month-end close activities, process invoices, record cash deposits, and maintain thorough documentation for financial transactions. Project Leadership:
Lead and assist with significant projects, including the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) Program and Real Estate Development initiatives. Insurance Integration:
Collaborate with brokers and internal teams to review insurance coverage and identify consolidation opportunities. Financial Reporting:
Utilize Sage Intacct to generate recurring reports related to home sales, work-in-progress, cost summaries, rental activities, and compliance requirements. Cash Management and Analysis:
Develop cash flow projections and contribute to improving cash flow processes in collaboration with the CFO and Controller. Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with various departments to ensure best practices in service delivery and financial processes. Software Proficiency:
Use electronic tools, including Salesforce (STARS database system), Sage Intacct, Bill.com, Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and advanced Excel, to enhance service delivery. Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure adherence to applicable regulations, policies, and procedures. Process Improvements:
Actively seek and implement continuous process improvements to enhance the finance team's effectiveness. Requirements

Proficiency in common accounting practices and GAAP principles. Technical capacity. Must understand Homewise's nonprofit financial business model and the applicable accounting policies and practices for bank accounts, short- and long-term investments, loans, mortgages, mortgage-backed securities, real estate development, grants management, and standard accounts. Customer service. Extremely responsive to internal and external customer requests to exceed customers' expectations. Abides by Homewise Customer Service Standards. Listening skills. Actively listens to understand other people's viewpoints. Anticipates customer needs and offers innovative solutions. Communication skills. Able to clearly present issues - both orally and written. At least 3 three years of financial, accounting, audit, or related work experience in a financial institution or mortgage company. Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, economics, mathematics, or a related field (or 4 four years of equivalent work experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree in addition to the minimum years of work experience required). Work Schedule
Ability to travel within New Mexico as needed. Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed. This is a hybrid role with a minimum of three days spent in the office in conjunction with remote office work.
