Atlanta Beltline, Inc. (ABI) seeks a Staff Accountant to join the Finance & Accounting team. This individual will be responsible for the detailed accounting of all areas of the Finance & Accounting team's accurate and timely financial statement preparation. Reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant will support activities, including general accounting, job cost accounting, accounts payable, billing, vendor maintenance, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and year-end audit preparation.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a thorough understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting systems, and general ledger structures. This role requires strong attention to details and an inquisitive nature as there are numerous departments, funding sources, and partners that play a critical role in the success of the Atlanta Beltline.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant responsibilities include:
Perform weekly bank reconciliations to ensure cash transactions are recorded in a timely manner. Assist with the analysis of financial transactions to determine or review coding. Prepare certain monthly account analyses and reconciliations. Record transactions correctly and prepare correcting journal entries, if needed. Assist the senior accountant in the preparation of the monthly funding requisitions. Perform the monthly billing of customer receivables and submit for review. Maintain responsibility of the vendor maintenance process. Assist the Director of Finance in maintaining design and construction cost projections and cost codes listing, as needed. Support the team in the annual audit with external auditors, prepare and ensure appropriate documentation is provided to auditors. Assist the senior accountant with the electronic payment processing, as needed. Team with the senior accountant as a resource for certain department requests and ad hoc needs. Assist with preparing monthly and annual financial reports as directed by the Senior Manager: balance sheet, income statement, financial dashboard with discussion, variance analysis, and ad hoc, as needed. Accurately post quarterly additions, disposals, and depreciation entries in the fixed asset system to ensure proper accounting and compliance with company policies and accounting standards. Assist with annual 1099 preparation Promote the Vision, Mission and Core Values of ABI while fostering a collegial work environment.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Accounting or Finance Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree or professional certification is a plus.
Experience: A minimum of two years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience in fast-paced environment. Must have direct experience in preparing and analyzing financial statements. Experience in real estate development, transportation development or transit development project is a plus. Public accounting or internal controls experience preferred. Proven track record in collaborating outside of accounting departments and process documentation.
Required Skills: Requires ability to quickly learn the existing structure of the organization. Must be highly organized, capable of self-propelling and ability to work well with persons at all levels and backgrounds. Flexibility and the ability to multi-task. Must have collaborative and effective verbal and written communication skills.
