Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, Division of Marketing and Development is seeking a Project Manager in the Office of Agriculture and Forestry Development. The selected individual will promote economic development in the Virginia agriculture sector by facilitating the growth of employment, investment and income opportunities in Virginia's agriculture and forestry businesses. Duties include implementing the Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund (AFID); leading agency efforts in agribusiness expansion, retention, and recruitment; organizing and participating in agricultural and forestry product development and informational assistance programs and meetings; marketing Virginia as a preferred site for agribusiness development; and identifying resources for high priority agribusiness development initiatives. Once onboarded, this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealth's telework policy. Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of marketing & economic development principles & practices and business attraction and expansion procedures. Ability to administer high profile economic development incentive programs; to manage multiple projects simultaneously; to develop presentations and effectively present to decision makers & to effectively collaborate with staff. Demonstrated abilities to exercise independent judgement & decision making; to identify viable economic development opportunities; to independently provide information regarding economic development programs, counsel & advise through consultations, group presentations & written information and experience with grant coordination. Exceptional oral & written communication skills and proficiency with computers & standard business software applications. Experience with agriculture & economic development activities & programs; planning & implementing participation in events & trade shows & interacting with high level state, local & private executives. Experience writing for and interacting with public officials and business executives. Must have (or be eligible for) and maintain a valid driver's license and have a driving record that reflects a sense of responsibility for highway safety. HS Diploma/GED required.

Additional Considerations

A combination of related education, training and experience indicating knowledge of the following skills and abilities to include knowledge of economic development principles and practices, agriculture, marketing, economics, business administration, community development, planning or other related discipline along with knowledge of Virginia's agricultural commodities & related programs/services.
