HOURLY RATE: $39.09/session (30+ minutes)DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves planning and implementing occupational therapy (OT) services to children, birth to five (5) years of age, enrolled in the Early Intervention and Preschool Programs at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. This is a professional position involving the assessment of children suspected of having motor development delays and providing occupational therapy to children who have been identified as eligible for such services. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-ranking administrative employee. Does related work as required.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:Conducts occupational therapy assessments to determine motor skills and functional activities; prepares assessment reports;Plans and provides OT services in the child's least restrictive environment as outlined in the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) or Individualized Education Plan (IEP);Plans, develops and implements age-appropriate outcomes and goals for the student;Maintains regular communication with families, caregivers, general education teachers and other treatment team members;Prepares and maintains records and reports;Represents Pediatric Educational and Diagnostic Services (PEDS) - ECMC at IFSP and Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) meetings;Attends and participates in team conferences.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of current methods of occupational therapy for children birth to five years of age; thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of occupational therapy for children who have delays in motor development; good knowledge of Early Intervention and Preschool Special Education Programs; good knowledge of Individualized Family Services Plans and Individualized Education Plans; ability to conduct occupational therapy assessments; ability to develop occupational therapy plans to meet individual requirements of students; ability to work within a multi-disciplinary treatment team; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse constituency; ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally; ability to travel to various sites within Erie County; ability to prepare and maintain reports and records; good understanding of child development; sound professional judgment; excellent time management and organizational skills; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Possession of a license to practice Occupational Therapy in the State of New York at the time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Possession of a valid New York State Driver's License and use of a private automobile at the time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment;Possession of Occupational Therapy certification* (see Note) as issued by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) at time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment.Section 424-a of the Social Services law requires the local social services district to inquire whether the applicant is the subject of an indicated child abuse or maltreatment report on file with the State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment. All potential employees for this position will be requested to sign the necessary clearance form prior to being advised that they will be hired. Refusal to sign will be cause to an automatic non-selection.NOTE:Permanent appointments made to licensed Occupational Therapist titles at ECMCC prior to March 1, 2018, are not required to maintain NBCOT certification and shall remain deemed qualified for this title.
