Senior Accountant
Reporting to: Controller
Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for handling financial activities related to general accounting functions within the EBRPHA and PSE. This role ensures the accurate reporting of financial information, compliance with regulatory requirements, and efficient financial operations. The Senior Accountant will collaborate with the Controller and other departments to support financial planning and real estate development initiatives, focusing on affordable housing and public-private partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles, real estate development accounting, and financial analysis.
Essential Functions:
Financial Management & Reporting:
Prepare and maintain financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports. Ensure accurate accounting for housing and development-related transactions, including capital expenditures, project costs, and funding sources. Monitor and analyze financial performance of housing and development projects, identifying variances and providing recommendations for cost control and efficiency improvements. Budgeting & Forecasting:
Assist in the development of budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and available resources. Collaborate with the housing and development teams to track project progress, expenses, and revenue projections, and adjust forecasts as needed. Support long-term financial planning and forecasting efforts. Compliance & Audit:
Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements related to affordable housing and real estate development, including HUD guidelines. Coordinate and support external audits, preparing required documentation and resolving any financial discrepancies. Maintain accurate and organized financial records, ensuring all transactions are properly documented for auditing purposes. Grant and Funding Management:
Track and manage grant funds and other financial resources related to housing development projects, ensuring compliance with funding guidelines. Prepare financial reports for grantors, lenders, and other funding sources as required, ensuring transparency and accountability. Real Estate Development Accounting:
Oversee accounting for development activities, including acquisition, construction, and rehabilitation of housing projects. Manage capital funding, draw requests, and payment requisitions for real estate development projects. Track and report on tax credit allocations, subsidies, and other funding mechanisms associated with affordable housing projects. Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with internal teams to ensure financial alignment and reporting accuracy. Provide financial guidance and support to other departments, ensuring financial best practices are followed across the organization. Communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders. Technology & Systems:
Maintain and enhance accounting systems and financial reporting tools to ensure efficient management of financial data. Use accounting software to manage accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and other financial transactions. Leadership & Development:
Assist in mentoring and guiding junior accounting staff. Lead continuous improvement efforts in financial operations and reporting processes. Additional duties

Requirements
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA preferred. Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, preferably within real estate development, affordable housing, or public sector accounting. Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP, real estate accounting, and project-based accounting. Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Yardi or similar systems). Experience with HUD accounting practices, tax credits, and grants management is a plus. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
