Summary In this position, you will become a member of the Region Five, Mitigation Division team. The ideal candidate for this position will have extensive experience leading disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery, or support operations as well as technical experience in hazard mitigation, flood mitigation and insurance, risk analysis and/or environmental preservation. Responsibilities What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as a Deputy Mitigation Division Director who assists the Division Director in managing, directing and supervising the mitigation division. Typical assignments include: Developing divisional priorities, goals and objectives through annual and multi-year planning and monitoring and evaluating progress of staff. Performing as a spokesperson at agency-level conferences, meetings, committees and working groups to promote and maintain a proactive preparedness, response, recovery and resilience posture. During disaster declarations, leading and managing the mitigation field operations as a Hazard Mitigation Branch Director or assuming full responsibility for the Mitigation Division for extended periods. Managing all aspects of the mitigation mission to include National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) technical assistance and compliance, recovery mapping, engineering technical assistance, community outreach, hazard mitigation planning, building assessments, hazard mitigation grant program and long-term recovery. Qualifications Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The time-in-grade and qualification requirements must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. To qualify for this position at the GS-15 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following: Providing senior managerial leadership, direction, guidance, coordination and implementation of program activities or support operations with Federal, State and local emergency management organizations as they relate to disasters and emergencies; AND Directing a program with significant resources (e.g., multi-million dollar level of annual resources); AND Making decisions on work problems and/or controversial program and personnel issues, promoting team building and improving business practices.
