We are looking for a highly experienced Staff Developer Advocate to join our well established and growing global Developer Relations team.
What does Developer Relations at GitHub do?
Whether the person is brand new to coding, a maker, a student, a teacher, someone working on a personal project, someone contributing to open source, a team launching their first startup or someone working as part of a group in a large enterprise - they are a developer and we want to be there to support them and help them make awesome things. You can check out some of our recent work on keynotes, with the GitHub Stars, short-form video, live-streams, hackathons, social media, animated-gif goodness and more. Be on the ground, serving developers in regions around the world. Spark creativity and excitement around GitHub, and are always finding new ways to connect with developers Help Developers see how new features can make them faster, collaborate better, be more efficient, and more creative Connect product teams with the people they need to learn from to make GitHub work better for them - and help the engineering org learn from our customers Keep open source communities up to speed with the latest changes they can take advantage of and help maintainers be even more awesome than they already are. Success that's based on happiness of developers, success of open source, ability to influence product direction and enabling the creativity of our superfans and the community around GitHub. Responsibilities
What would you do?
Content Development: Scope and create content specifically tailored for Developers. Lead impactful demonstrations, drive awareness across technical forums and social media, and promote best practices and solutions that resonate with the community. Represent GitHub at high-visibility events (e.g., hackathons, meetups, in-person and virtual events), delivering talks and engaging deeply with community members. You'll also coach and mentor other advocates in presenting and demoing at these events to help them connect authentically with developers. Understanding the Tech Audience/Community: Act as a recognized subject matter expert within relevant communities by immersing yourself in industry trends, technological developments, and community objectives. You'll continually engage with community members and GitHub product users, whether online or at events, to anticipate their needs and understand the key drivers that shape their goals. As a thought leader, you'll gain insights from the community and bring them back to GitHub to inform our approach. Internal Advocacy and Impact: Gather and share feedback from the technical community on GitHub products, user experiences, and emerging needs. Actively communicate this feedback with product and marketing teams to champion long-term improvements, product updates, and more immediate changes that reflect the community's voice. Use data and key metrics to show the impact of these initiatives, building networks with key stakeholders to ensure the community's feedback is both heard and acted upon. Technical Expertise: Continuously seek learning and teaching opportunities, engaging with developers and customers to stay informed on current technologies, specific technical challenges, and adjacent developments. You'll apply your technical skills in sample coding and content, and build scalable processes for sharing this expertise across GitHub teams. Actively contribute to the industry by participating in advisory boards and other collaborative spaces to keep GitHub aligned with the latest innovations and developments. Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
10+ years experience in community/audience engagement, information technology (IT), software development, or other related work experiences OR Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in community/audience engagement, information technology (IT), or software development, or other related work experiences OR equivalent experience.
Compensation Range
The base salary range for this job is USD $113,800.00 - USD $302,000.00 /Yr.
These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role. GitHub values
