Growing Community Media, a nonprofit reader supported newsroom, is looking for a Finance and Operations Director to play a leadership role in strengthening our organization’s business functions and growing our capacity to take on new opportunities. GCM is an award-winning local news publisher with deep roots in the communities we have covered since 1980. We became a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization in 2019 and continue to grow our unusual hybrid revenue model of philanthropy, print and digital advertising and paid subscriptions. The Finance and Operations Director reports to the Publisher/Executive Director of GCM. They will also work closely with colleagues across our organization including in sales, circulation, editorial and development. Key areas of direct oversight include finance, human resources, IT, circulation and building operations. Foundational leader of all aspects of our finances both in planning and execution Computer and tech skills including QuickBooks, Excel, Google and Microsoft office suites Leads annual budget and cash flow planning Prepares payroll via Paylocity Accounts payable and accounts receivable

Invoicing, statements, collections and write-offs

Prepares all deposits Coordinates annual audit and tax prep materials with support from Jeff Schroeder, CPA Coordinates all employee benefits including health, vision, dental, 401(c)3 Coordinates all insurance including health, libel and liability, Workman’s Comp, D&O Oversees month end close, preparation of financials for board and staff with support from Pam Kenney, a CPA

Conducts and summarizes exit interviews with departing colleagues

Maintains personnel files Coordinates annual performance reviews

Works with managers to refine performance review docs

Staff training and professional development coordinator Benefits administration, reporting and coordination Oversees personnel manual updates and policy initiatives Assures that 1099s and other employee tax docs are prepared in a timely manner Oversees annual conflict of interest compliance and whistleblower recordkeeping Tracks vacation and leave time for colleagues

Coordinates with CMIT, our outsourced IT provider Works with staff to determine IT priorities Manages all software licensing Coordinates on building issues with M&M Property Management Liaison to sub-tenants Readership/Circulation

Circulation/Reader engagement manager reports to Finance and Operations Director
