This is a 100% FTE, continuing position based on the Stanford campus, with an option for telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need. SUMMARY: The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) is the foundation of a liberal arts education at Stanford, encompassing 24 departments and 24 interdisciplinary programs. H&S is home to fundamental and applied research, where free, open, and critical inquiry is pursued across disciplines. The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) within Stanford Global Studies (SGS) is a U.S. Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center committed to outreach to the scholarly community. CLAS serves as an international hub that fosters an academic community and supports research and teaching related to Latin America and the Caribbean. JOB PURPOSE: CLAS’ Events and Communications Officer reports to the Center’s Associate Director and is the primary point of contact for events sponsored or co-sponsored by the Center. This position is responsible for managing CLAS’ events programming and written public communications, working with faculty, students, and other planning personnel. The position plans and executes center events, including seminars, conferences, alumni engagement, and commencement ceremonies. Responsibilities include budget preparation, vendor negotiation, advertising, event setup, and attendee tracking. The candidate should be a self-starter, able to work independently, and possess experience in event planning and public communications. CORE DUTIES: Initiate and lead meetings with stakeholders to plan events, establish budgets, and review progress. Serve as project leader on specific events, coordinating teams and managing all aspects such as marketing and vendor relations. Responsible for budget planning and management for specific events. Develop and oversee written communications, including presentations, news stories, and social media posts. Assist in preparing content for newsletters. Research and evaluate potential event locations. Procure and coordinate vendor services, negotiating contracts. Coordinate media relations and ensure logistics are handled. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Success managing event teams and developing budgets. Excellent project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks. May require occasional lifting of objects that weigh 21-40 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: May require some travel and working evenings and weekends. PAY TRANSPARENCY LANGUAGE: The expected pay range for this position is $78,408.00 to $98,614.00 per annum. Stanford University is an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer.
