Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History & African American Studies

Location: University, MS, US, 38677 Department: Art & Art History (10000830) Employee Designation: Temporary Full-time (Benefits Eligible) The Department of Art & Art History and the African American Studies Program at The University of Mississippi invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History & African American Studies beginning August 21, 2025. This full-time, one-year position (with the possibility of renewal) requires a Ph.D. in art history or a closely related field. The successful candidate will be a humanities-rooted research scholar with broad expertise in the field of race and art in North America, and specific research expertise in African American art. The position is a joint appointment in African American Studies and Art & Art History. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate art history courses, developing a record of publication, and performing service appropriate to the position including participation in shared governance. The candidate will teach African American and Black diasporic art in the Americas, a course in African American Studies, art history surveys, and courses directly related to their research portfolio. The Department of Art & Art History is committed to fostering students’ creativity through the development of critical-thinking skills combined with intellectual inquiry. With a focus on academic excellence, creative exploration, and scholarly investigation, our students and faculty learn, evaluate, and exchange their knowledge of art history, art, and design, in an inclusive environment. Minimum Qualifications
