Assistant Store Manager Department Manager Outpost Locations General Summary The Assistant Manager is responsible for ensuring superior customer service in their store. They must assist the Manager in developing associates at all levels, drive sales and profitability, and maintain effective expense and payroll budget management. They will also ensure compliance with effective inventory management, merchandising practices and all store policies and procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide positive representation of store. Proactively assist customers in solving problems. Greet customers entering and throughout the store. Thank customers when finished and when they are leaving the store. Provide a friendly, outgoing demeanor; work well with customers as well as associates. Ensure all calls and pages are answered promptly, courteously and effectively. Handle customer complaints. Work to resolve problems with the customer and have store’s best interest taken into consideration. Possess excellent product knowledge and knowledge of store layout and location of products. Provide delivery to local customers as needed. Mileage will be paid by company. Store Operations Ensure a positive, professional and safe work environment for all associates. Assist the Manager in supervising the “general operations” of their department. Assist the Manager with ordering and maintaining desirable product inventory levels to ensure department profitability in compliance with corporate objectives. Assist the Manager to ensure compliance with all practices, policies and procedures necessary to manage inventory shrink. Monitor shrink numbers and take corrective actions. Assist the Manager to direct preventative maintenance and repairs in order to maximize and protect all physical assets (i.e., building, fixtures and equipment). Assist the Manager to ensure receiving, checking in, stocking of merchandise for the store is being done completely and in a timely manner. Assist the Manager with the responsibility for maintenance of back stock levels. Assist the Manager and help oversee and assist with the daily maintenance, orderliness and cleanliness of the sales floor, stock room and outdoor merchandise areas. Assist the Manager to ensure weekly price changes are being completed. Assist the Manager to ensure weekly cycle counts are being completed. Assist the Manager to ensure daily, weekly, and monthly Mango’s, Nick’s list and Compass reports are being completed on time. Assist the Manager to ensure signage is current in their department/store. Assist the Manager to provide a clean and orderly sales floor, including end caps and ad goods merchandised. Assist the Manager to ensure special orders, e-comm orders and rain-checks are being completed properly. Assist the Manager to ensure completion of tasks in a timely manner as described in weekly 1 on 1 with General Manager. Assist the Manager to ensure achieve labor goal of 18% or less each month. Assist the Manager to ensure achieve Inventory goal of 3.1 turns each year. Assist store in achieving the average transaction goal for the year. Store Support Operations Assist the Manager to ensure the implementation of Store Support programs. Assist the Manager for successful Loss Prevention, Safety and Internal Audits that relate to their department. Assist with special projects within the district as set forth by their Manager, the General Manager/Owner. Hiring and Training of Associates Assist the Manager to ensure effective training and development of all associates. Assist the Manager to recruit prospective associates for possible management positions throughout store. Assist the Manager to support the hiring, scheduling, reviewing, rewarding and coaching of all department employees including management. Assist the Manager to actively recruit and promote the advancement of store associates. Challenge all associates to think of ways to better merchandise product, control expenses and increase sales. Lead by example; be approachable by all associates and customers. Other Essential Requirements Qualifications High School or GED equivalent required; degree preferred. Completion of NHRA Advanced Course in Hardware Retailing recommended. Must have previous retail management experience. Physical Demands Standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs.) and climbing. What was once a small surplus store is now the best department store in Spokane, WA, and it is still locally owned by the same family. In addition to being an ACE Hardware store, The General Store has an amazing Clothing department with top brands, an Automotive department that has a full line of custom and replacement parts for imports and domestics vehicles, a Sporting Goods department with a huge section of products for fishing, hunting, and all outdoor activities, and the largest Toy department in Eastern Washington. In 2012, our 2nd store on N. Argonne Rd. was added which consists of a full-size Ace Hardware store, sporting goods, marine and RV, and one of the best fishing departments in the area. October, 2022, our new Liberty Lake opened which consists of a full-size Ace Hardware store, marine and RV supplies, fishing tackle, and a small sporting goods department to compliment the activities of the local community. Job Type Full-time Hourly (40 hours min. / week) with open availability to work all shifts any day of the week. Aflac is offered on the 1st of the month after completing 60 days. Medical, Dental, and Vision are offered after 90 days of employment effective the following month. 401k after one year of employment and has a company match of 100% up to 3% contribution rate, and a 50% match up to 5%. Employee discount at 25% above cost after 1st week. PTO – 1 week earned incrementally each pay period and will equal 1 week after 1 year. More weeks can be earned as described in the employee handbook.
