Position Summary / Objective
The
General Manager (GM)
is responsible for overseeing all retail store operations and outcomes in support of consistently achieving excellent store operations standards. This includes overseeing all store production efficiencies, the retail selling floor, store opening and closing, communications, staffing, budgeting, key performance indicators, and record keeping. Responsible for overseeing the delivery of the Goodwill 4Ps: People, Production, Protect the Brand and Profitability.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Oversee the overall operation of the retail store, including store opening and closing. Oversee all production levels, and quality of merchandise to the sales floor to optimize revenue generation. Manage inventory levels of all merchandise lines. Oversee all cash operations, ensure sales procedures are followed, and daily banking requirements are met. Responsible for store P&L results and regularly review, analyze and adjust store operations accordingly. Manage the general appearance of the store and premises according to agency standards. Ensure sales floor is always full and shoppable, departments are sized, pricing meets standards and categories are laid out according to plan and correctly signed. Ensure housekeeping maintenance of all facilities are to standards and well presented at all times: clean, organized, in working order with safe passageways, supplies are stocked. Regularly communicate daily expectations and production goals to drive results. Ensure store has an active process for evaluating operations including an updated business review board, utilization of MOD checklists and labor calculator tools. Maintain staffing levels aligned with budgeted payroll expense and striving to reduce turnover. Oversee hiring, training and employee oversight of all store staff in accordance with Goodwill policies. Clearly define roles, responsibilities and requirements for direct reports and hold each accountable by setting specific performance expectations, providing training, and giving consistent feedback. Set and manage schedules for store staff so that the store needs are consistently met. Manage accurate time and attendance and submit payroll and employee changes according to deadlines. Create an atmosphere of ongoing exceptional customer service for customer experience, employee experience and job applicant experience. Serves as point of resolution for complaints and grievances. Monitor and ensure a smooth, effective flow of donations adhering to all standards, security, safety, and laws. Perform timely reporting requirements including sales and production reports, and surveys. Leverage Mission Support Center resources and maintain effective communications with all divisions. Oversee and implement special sales and promotions. Oversee store enforcement of all company policies and standards. Build effective relationships and communications with MoKan Goodwill support departments and resources. Attend meetings as scheduled. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The General Manager will be a proven leader with the following: High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of five (5) years' experience in retail or equivalent industry preferred. Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of previous retail progressive management experience supervising several departments and/or staff of 15 or more employees. Experience with full P&L ownership. Employee management experience including selecting, assessing, coaching, and developing, preferably in a retail environment. Experience with cash register operations, management experience preferred. Knowledge or experience in the thrift and resale industry a plus. Advanced customer service and people skills including respect for all individuals and appreciation of diversity (customers, vendors, employees and job applicants). A positive, supportive attitude to staff and customers. Knowledge of legal employment requirements. Familiarity with safety requirements in a warehouse/retail environment. Strong and effective communication skills with professional demeanor. Strong critical and analytical thinking skills with ability to exercise good judgment in decision making. Strong organization and multi-tasking ability. Strong commitment to mission of the organization. Basic math and computer skills. Ability to work a flexible, varied schedule with regular, predictable, reliable attendance as business demands dictate, including weekend and evening work. Must have reliable transportation.
Work Environment
This job operates in a retail environment with merchandise displays and items available for purchase in inventory, donated goods retail store back rooms and office environment. This job utilizes normal office equipment, cashiering and cash handling equipment, warehouse equipment, and donated goods production and transformation equipment which may vary over time.
Physical Demand
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and apply active listening skills. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 35 pounds frequently. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Travel
This is a full-time position requiring a minimum of 45 hours per week. Work schedule will vary across Sunday through Saturday onsite at the assigned retail location. This position works a flexible schedule in support of the store opening, production, and closing operations including work on weekends and holidays to support retail locations open 7 days per week, 10am - 8pm. This position may require up to 25% travel within the MoKan region across retail locations, meetings and events, and Mission Support Center.
