The Engineering Manager - Production must possess sufficient technical knowledge of their programs to identify problems, provide guidance to staff, and ensure the work product is completed on time and budget and fulfills requirements. Required to proactively lead improvement initiatives. This position is responsible to provide manufacturing engineering, testing, and production support to facilitate the successful development of new systems and products, or modifications and revisions to current systems and products. The Engineering Manager- Production position offers a variety of engineering opportunities including fixture design, analysis, 3D modeling, plant layout, line layout, process evaluation, machine programming, management, prototyping, and testing. Position is 100% on-site. Essential Duties: Supervise and develop a team of 5-10 engineers and designers across multiple sites. Completes annual performance review process for direct reports Sets and achieves goals and assists direct reports in doing likewise Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related results in a cooperative and supportive manner, makes and keeps commitments and expects same of direct reports Complies with Engineering Playbook, Make vs Buy, and other HDT Engineering ISO Standards and works to optimize its content Manages budgets, costs, and schedule inputs for design assignments, participate in technical reviews Manage production support changes (ECR/ECO's), and team priorities Support proposal, technical write ups, and provide quotes to Sales and BD Participates in new product release process and drives to the production floor. Demonstrate understanding of applicable MIL and commercial standards essential for equipment design and compliance (preferred) Hands-on building, fitting, and testing prototypes Designs, develops, analyzes, documents and supports manufacture of products, systems, or subsystems both for Quality Testing and for Production Builds. Check drawings and designs to ensure compliance to HDT and design specifications Adhere and train to company revision control practices and ISO processes Incorporates engineering requirements into planning and work Directs technical activities to instruct production personnel in the building of product. Implements new and/or improved methods, processes, and work instructions to lower cost and improve productivity and efficiencies. Implements and supports lean methodologies. Implements tools expected by leadership. Creates, modifies routings, BOMs, work instuctions. Interface internally with all facility associates, management, and staff Proactively identifies and mitigates risk. Reviews engineering specifications and requirements, and under direction, develops best methods to support. Conducts independent research of new methods, technologies, and equipment and makes recommendations for implementation. Communicates clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required Education/Experience/Other Skills & Abilities: BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering/Technology, or similar 10 plus years experience Must be able to speak, read and understand English Military/ defense experience preferred. Product development experience- concept through production release. Demonstrated experience with work cell layout and production line setup. Minimum 5 years System Engineering experience, or equal experience; previous management experience is a plus. SolidWorks experience required; SW certification a plus, AutoCAD experience helpful. SolidWorks Electrical experience helpful. Prior experience with MIL-810 Environmental Testing and other Mil-STD Testing procedures for expeidtionay products preferred. Comfortable with shop/laboratory and equipment. Experience in a softgoods/ fabric production environment a plus Experience with sewing machines, CNC cutting equipment, metal fabrication, and RF or hot air welding processes. Experience designing assembly improvement fixtures for production and testing. Experience in DFMA analysis, time study, and test reports preferred. Effective oral and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills. Routinely punctual. Mechanically inclined and able to problem solve with little information. Ability to work autonomously, prioritize work assignments, and multi-task to meet deadlines. Ability to offer their own opinions and commentaries while being flexible and responsive to constructive feedback by managers and peers. Application of technical principles/techniques from established practices, as well as a functional knowledge/understanding of mechanical engineering processes, techniques, and practices to quickly/accurately perceive the fit, form, function, and manufacturability of design. SAP experience a plus. LEAN/ Six Sigma certification a plus. PC-based computer experience including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is essential; SAP experience a plus. Basic knowledge/understanding of industry standards (ISO, etc.) and codes. Strong, proven organizational and time management skills. Strong, proven problem solving and analytical skills. Possesses quality orientation and high attention to detail Possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with customers, vendors, employees and managers at all levels within the company Possesses strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office) Ability to travel between Expeditionary Facilities is required.
