A full-time (100% FTE) Research Project Specialist 2 position is open at the U of M TeleOutreach Center at the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (MIDB). The TeleOutreach Center at MIDB is focused on the use of telehealth technology innovation to improve access to and quality of support for developmental, behavioral health, and emotional services and supports in childhood, youth, and across the lifespan.
About the Position The Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (MIDB) is dedicated to fostering the healthy brain function of children across the lifespan with the mission to set and maintain a healthy trajectory for all children toward positive life outcomes through early neurobehavioral and mental health assessment, innovative targeted interventions, informed policymaking, compassionate child-advocacy, and community education. The MIDB's mission of basic and clinical research in the field of neurobehavioral development is supported by multiple service hubs including: TeleOutreach, Analytics, Informatics, Neuroimaging, Center for Neurobehavioral Development, Translational Neuroscience, Neuromodulation, and Community Engagement and Education.
The Research Project Specialist 2 is to provide project management and support for the University of Minnesota Telehealth Innovation site of the A Research Collaboratory to Explore Best Practices for Expanding Access to Care Through Expansion and Support of Telehealth Care for Children and Families with Behavioral Health Needs ("Telehealth Research Collaboratory"). This position requires superior organizational, communication, problem-solving, and data management skills, as well as some degree of research, outreach, and grant management experience.
This role will work in partnership with the Institute on Community Integration, the College of Education and Human Development, the TeleOutreach Center and Service Hub, the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain, and related faculty and staff to provide oversight and coordination to completion of project deliverables; support in grant management aspects, including coordination for Institutional Review Board (IRB) and related compliance processes, support in project reporting to internal stakeholders and external funder, coordination in interfacing with community organizations and related stakeholders. Within this role, the candidate will provide project management for multiple ongoing project deliverables, which are subject to shifting across years. The Project Manager will have the opportunity to work with a host of talented individuals and draw on new resources from the University of Minnesota's College of Education and Human Development as well as the new Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (MIDB).
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Project Management and Strategic Communications Support to the MN Telehealth Research Collaboratory (75%) Manage the overall oversight of milestone completion and day-to-day activities of the U of M site Telehealth Research Collaboratory. Modify practices and procedures to improve efficiency and quality. Coordinate multiple sub-teams that intersect across MIDB service hubs, faculty and staff across U of M departments, and the coordination team. Manage the strategic communication plan for the project, including development and tailoring of communication for a variety of stakeholders (internal, external organizations, and site partners). Work closely with the communication teams to ensure a robust dissemination effort (e.g., Institute of Community Integration, College of Education and Human Development, Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain). Supervise project personnel, including graduate assistants, research, and educational specialist roles. Support the Primary Investigator in the oversight of completion of project deliverables, including regularly reporting to the PI on project timelines, project management activities (e.g., Gantt charts), status, challenges, and proposed solutions. Ensure streamlined and coordinated communication, delegation to internal teams, and on-track milestone completion. Serve as liaison and support engagement at external stakeholder meetings, and between U of M site Telehealth Research Collaboratory team, the project PI, and the external stakeholders. Develop and implement comprehensive timelines, project plans, and identify resources to manage and meet deadlines. Support PI in determining effort and serving as a liaison and support for grant management activities (e.g., reporting). Work with the Research Coordinators to assign and monitor resources and workflow across project teams and deliverables. Summarize and identify action steps/to do items for each meeting along with necessary timelines. Manage the reporting process, together with the Project Management and Project Coordination team, to effectively and efficiently deliver, track, and manage all project-related data for quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reporting. Perform research planning and implementation as needed. Support the PI, Compliance Specialist, and project teams in the IRB application, modification, and management process, in coordination with the Information Technology teams involved on the project. Ensure project team members are up-to-date with required training (e.g., HIPAA, IRB, etc.) through tracking and coordination amongst teams. Project Management TeleOutreach Center (25%) Develop timeline and tracking process for family resource portal and related online resource repository activities. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders for seamless communication. General Skills and Attributes Strong general troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Friendly, confident presence and helpful attitude; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others at all levels of the U of M and external stakeholders (e.g., community provider organizations, the sponsor and related military-connected organizations). Strong initiative to see tasks through to the end. Ability to learn quickly and adapt to change. Ability to identify opportunities for improvement and to engage in problem solving to proactively address challenges. Ability to work responsibly with or without direct supervision.
Qualifications
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. Required Qualifications BA/BS with at least 8 years of experience in relevant research, project coordination, or project management or an advanced degree with 6 years of experience. Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. Experience or background in scientific research with understanding of Institutional Review Board/human subjects research practices. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, both in-person and online. Advanced editing and proofreading skills. Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task in order to coordinate and problem solve across multiple research projects. Ability to manage work amidst changing priorities and ambiguous environment. Demonstrated ability to analyze, design and optimize complex processes. Ability to work independently, high level of self-motivation. Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work under tight deadlines or changing needs. Proficient with various technology applications including MS Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint), project management software (Basecamp), file sharing software (BOX), Internet applications, data entry, email, calendaring, database software. Preferred Qualifications MA/MS preferred though not required. Experience with grants, including technical writing and reviewing, budget development. Experience working with diverse and immigrant communities. Prior experience entering, managing, and coordinating various databases and sources of data.
