Job Description
W. R. Grace & Co. a leading manufacturer of Specialty Chemicals is seeking a Shift Supervisor to work at its Curtis Bay facility. This position will be responsible for overseeing the operation and safety of its employees during both day and night shift.
All employees at the Curtis Bay Site are expected to work safely. Each employee has environment, health and safety roles and responsibilities. The employee is required to participate in achieving compliance with our EHS Policies including, but not limited to, emergency preparedness and response as defined in site-wide and local area documentation.
Responsibilities
Directly supervises employees in the specialty chemicals manufacturing setting.
Analyzes production to estimate worker hours and create production schedules that meet both internal and external needs.
Responsible for start-up, shutdown and normal process operation to include manual operation of the process using field controls.
Assure regulatory compliance, including environmental and process safety, and a safe workplace for all employees. Address hazards, deviations, and injuries in a timely manner.
Directs response to emergency situations to include emergency shutdown procedures.
Coaches and counsels operations personnel in the assignment of duties.
Interfaces with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met.
Inspects and measures product to verify conformance to specifications. Utilizes quality control system, SPC and response charts to implement corrective actions in a timely manner.
Directs workers in adjusting equipment and processes to correct products which fail to meet quality standards.
Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
Interprets various sets of data and determines how to resolve/troubleshoot complex equipment/systems
Maintain housekeeping standards by performing requisite audits.
Complete all regulatory testing and conduct safety meetings for operations personnel as required.
Enter SAP notifications as required for maintenance.
Analyzes and resolves production issues to include enforcing labor relation's policies and resolving grievances.
Maintains time and production records.
Physical Requirements and Environment
Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
3+ year’s supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting.
Must be able to work 12 hour shift work to include both day and night.
Demonstrated experience with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.
Previous experience with performance appraisal performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and conflict resolution.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated leadership ability to direct and motivate employees
Demonstrated ability to act in a safe manner and teach employees on safety standards.
Proficient in MS Office.
