Project Description and Background
This Architect role is responsible for designing and recommending technological solutions that align with business needs and technical requirements with specific focus on modernization of the WSDOT information technology environment. This role involves evaluating business requirements, translating them into technical specifications, and ensuring that recommended solutions fit within the enterprise architecture framework. This position collaborates closely with stakeholders, project managers, developers, and other architects to deliver robust, scalable, and
efficient solutions.
Work Schedule, Location & Travel Expectations
The following expectations on work schedule, work location, and travel expectations:
Monday through Friday, up to forty (40) hours per week with some options for flex schedule but ensuring at least six hours a day align with WSDOT’s standard operating hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 PM Pacific time. Work remotely from the candidate’s home office within the United States. In-person work at the WSDOT Offices in Tumwater, WA 98501 for up to a week at a time as often as every three months to understand manual processes and information resources (this travel will be at the contractor’s expense). Occasional travel to other WSDOT locations may be required (this travel will be reimbursable in alignment with current state and agency travel policies). Key Responsibilities:
Solution Design and Recommendation:
Design technology solutions that meet business needs and technical requirements. Recommend solutions that align with the organization's modernization goals.
Requirement Evaluation:
Evaluate business requirements to understand the technical needs of projects. Translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications.
Enterprise Architecture Alignment:
Ensure recommended solutions fit within the enterprise architecture framework. Maintain alignment with organizational standards and best practices.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with stakeholders, project managers, developers, and other architects. Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical teams to ensure a clear understanding of project goals and solutions.
Project Involvement:
Participate in project planning and execution to ensure architectural integrity. Provide technical guidance and oversight during project implementation.
Modernization Focus:
Recommend a modernization strategy for the WSDOT information technology environment projects. Stay updated with emerging technologies and trends to recommend innovative solutions.
This role is pivotal in ensuring that the technology solutions not only meet current business needs but also position the organization for future growth and technological advancements. Mandatory & Desirable Knowledge and/or Skills
Mandatory: Expert Level experience (minimum of ten years) as an IT Architect or in a similar role. Expert level experience and understanding (minimum of ten years) of architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman, or FEAF. Exceptional knowledge of IT infrastructure, applications, and data management. Expert Level experience (minimum of eight years) with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). Expert Level experience (minimum of six years) using architectural modeling tools (e.g., ArchiMate, Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect). Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent leadership and project management skills. Exceptional understanding of security and compliance requirements in enterprise environments. Desirable:
Certification in enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF Certified, Zachman Certified). Experience with DevOps practices and tools. Knowledge of Agile methodologies. Familiarity with microservices architecture and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Knowledge of business process modeling and improvement. Understanding of data governance and master data management. Experience with enterprise integration technologies and patterns. Continuous learning mindset with the ability to stay current on emerging technologies and industry trends.
