Oncology Infusion RN position in Danbury, CT. Per Diem, 8 hour shifts between 7AM-7PM.
Summary:
Provides outpatient chemotherapy infusions/injection, including biologics, immune mediators, growth stimulating factors, hormonal and non-hormonal treatments in a fast-paced, high volume outpatient setting.
Responsibilities:
Performs patient assessments in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on safe and accurate cancer infusion therapy.
Provides direct care to oncology/hematology patients or patients requiring chemotherapy to treat a non-malignant disease, demonstrating experience and competency in the administration of high risk medications, i.e. chemotherapy biologic, immune mediated infusions as well as injections, treating app. 15 patients per day.
Administers complex treatments following ONS standards as well as DHS nursing policy and procedure to ensure safe and accurate delivery.
Demonstrates knowledge of symptom management specific to oncology issues.
Provides care related to INFUsysterm ambulatory home infusion pumps, including programming and troubleshooting to ensure safe delivery of care to patients requiring continuous chemotherapy infusion.
Documents the delivery of chemotherapeutic and support agents utilizing CPOE. Verifies doses are calculated based on patients clinical information to ensure patient safety.
Educates patients regarding all aspects of cancer treatment, including distribution and explanation of current literature , to ensure understanding of risks, benefits and side effects of chemotherapy.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of billing and coding regulations, including CPT, ICD-9, HCPCS and third party billing to ensure compliance as well as maintain fiscal viability for the organization.
Coordinate referrals for oncology/hematology patient: ie Social worker, dietician, radiation therapy , support groups and financial assistance
Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: ASSOCIATE'S LVL DGRE

Associate Degree
Two years administration of chemotherapy
License, Registration, Certification requirement: State of CT RN license.
Current ONS /ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate
BLS certified
Advanced proficiency in administration of chemotherapy including biologic immune mediators and growth stimulating factors.
Prefer:OCN preferred
Working Conditions:
Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity
Occupational: Significant occupational risk
Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force
Physical Environment: Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
