Job Description
Job Summary:
The Security Guard will watch over and protect a company’s property and all who fall within its area of responsibility. This individual coordinates with the appropriate authorities (police, firefighters, and medical workers) to ensure the safety and security of the establishment and its people. Success in this role will be demonstrated by your ability to prevent and properly respond to any illicit behavior or hazardous situations within facilities and premises.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Patrolling and monitoring activities on the company’s premises regularly to discourage criminals and ensure the environment is safe and secure; reports suspicious activities to local authorities
- Evicting trespassers and violators and detaining perpetrators while following legal protocols before relevant authorities arrive to take over
- Controlling the entrance and departure of employees, visitors and vehicles according to protocols
- Monitoring surveillance cameras to watch out for any disruptions or unlawful activities
- Completes reports and daily logs by recording observations, information, occurrences and surveillance activities.
- Interview witnesses and obtain signatures as needed.
- Providing detailed reports on daily activities and any incidents that may have occurred to management
- Inspecting, testing, and maintaining our security systems, as well as calling for maintenance as needed.
- Respond to alarms and react in a timely manner.
- Using provided communication devices such as two-way radios in a clear and concise manner
- Performing CPR or first aid when needed
- Contacts law enforcement or fire department in case of an emergency.
- After business hours, check the doors, windows, and gates to ensure the property is secure.
- Investigates reports of suspicious activity on the property.
- Reasonably detains people suspected of criminal activity until law enforcement arrives.
- Maintains and displays good public skills when interacting with visitors and staff.
- Escorts discharged staff, trespassers, and other unwelcome parties off the premises.
- Presents losses and damage by reporting irregularities and enforces company security policies and legal protocols.
- Controls traffic by directing drivers and pedestrians as needed for onsite events.
- Escort guest and employees to parking areas upon request, ensuring their safety.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience/Education):
- Highschool Diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum of two years of security experience, self-defense or conflict resolution.
- CPR/AED Certified (Or willing to obtain upon hire)
- Experience working with Native American population a plus
- Ability to successfully pass a background check
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must have a valid Montana State driver’s license
- Maintains proper licensure/certification and registration
- Security Guard Training Certificate preferred (not required)
Competencies or Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):
- Good understanding of legal guidelines for area security and public safety
- Possess outstanding surveillance and observation skills
- Familiarity with established security measures and best practices helps in the efficient execution of duties and adherence to company standards.
- Advanced skills in using modern security technology and surveillance systems that can enhance the effectiveness of security operations.
- Demonstrated leadership skills or experience in a supervisory role can be beneficial, especially in larger security teams where you may need to take charge during incidents or emergencies.
- Specific training in handling crises, such as natural disasters, active shooter situations, or large-scale evacuations, enhances preparedness and response capabilities.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
- An ability to patrol the property and access areas quickly.
- Physically able to capture and detain individuals if necessary.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and monitoring surveillance equipment.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
- Work is mainly in a small healthcare clinic and an office environment.
- Daily encounters with the population may be chaotic and unscripted.
- Often deals with unpleasant, angry, or discourteous people.
- Position includes walking, standing, and moving for most of the workday.
- Regularly stand, with continuous full use of hands, repetitive movement, keyboarding, and clear vision, as well as speak and hear normal conversation.
- Requires intermittent, moderate physical effort, moving or carrying 5 to 25 pounds. May occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
- Exposed to outdoor environment and on-street driving and moving vehicles.
Hours/Travel
- Generally, we have a set schedule each week.
- Usually work 40 hours a week with work hours is Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM, but may also include early morning and/or evening meetings and events.
