System One is currently seeking a Sr. Staff Geotechnical Engineer for an industry-leading client in the Pittsburgh, PA area. Your Role: Directly lead and manage projects, including planning, engineering, and design; serve as Engineer-of-Record on design and design-build projects; and manage client expectations. Plan and coordinate geotechnical & geophysical investigations, instrumentation programs, and in-situ & laboratory testing programs (soils & rock, coal combustion residuals/byproducts, mine tailings, construction materials, geosynthetics). Originate geotechnical analyses and designs for dams (earth, coal ash, coal refuse and mine tailings), cofferdams, traditional & specialty geo-structures, deep foundations, and ground improvement programs. Prepare design documentation reports and calculation briefs, and coordinate preparation of construction document packages (drawings, specifications, CQA/CQC manuals). Prepare and conduct presentations to internal and external clients, government regulators, other consultants and contractors, and other stakeholders, focused on analysis findings, and engineering conclusions and recommendations. Support project and business development activities, proposal and budget generation, and strategic planning, including building relationships with existing and potential clients. Support other projects/programs that are managed and supported within the local office, and other Tetra Tech offices and business units. Periodic travel to project sites for meetings, audits, or other activities will be required. Provide high level consultation to clients. Qualifications: BS degree in civil engineering from a U.S. college or university with an ABET-accredited civil/geotechnical engineering program is required. An ME or MS with a concentration in geotechnical engineering is highly preferred. Minimum of 15 years of experience providing technical leadership and guidance for geotechnical, civil engineering design, and site development projects for energy and industrial clients. Experience with Coal-Fired Power, Mining, Energy, Oil & Gas, Waste Industries, and other Industrial Clients is preferred. Candidate must be a registered Professional Engineer. Computer skills must encompass the Microsoft Office software suite, and widely used public domain geotechnical analysis and design software, and modeling software. Experience in liquefaction assessment/triggering analyses and seismic hazard assessment is a plus. Qualifications and ability to guide and review work performed by supporting technical staff are required. Team builder with the ability to mentor, develop, and facilitate quality performance from the individuals within the department is also required. Demonstrated experience with a variety of geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering projects. Of particular interest will be project experience in CCR disposal facility development and closure, dams and levees, tailings dams, mining, soft ground engineering, and oil & gas civil site development. Wide-ranging experience in traditional geotechnical engineering, advanced analyses & numerical modeling (slope stability, groundwater and seepage, liquefaction triggering, seismic response and deformation), and instrumentation expertise are a plus. Successful demonstration of subject matter expertise and past technical leadership, and teamwork skills to support project pursuits and implementation of projects with existing and new clients, including internal clients. Previous experience providing engineering support for major construction projects is a plus. Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing and ready access to a legally registered and insured vehicle or public transportation to meet work commuting needs, with ability to operate 2WD and 4WD vehicles.
