Per-Diem
OBJECTIVE SUMMARY: This position serves at the direction of a Provider in a wound consult role and provides education to primary nursing staff. Nursing staff performing patient care, wound prevention, and simple wound care to their patients have access to order a wound consult at any time to provide the patients with advanced wound care treatment planning. This position serves as a resource to provider(s) who may provide outpatient services and procedures.
This position sets care plans and monitors the progress of complex wound care for all SVH patient types of inpatient and outpatient. This position oversees the quality of care for wounds and develops quality improvement initiatives as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Coordinates wound care for inpatient and outpatients
- Provides education to patients, family and nursing staff about preventative measures or techniques to optimize wound healing. Provides education in the form of discharge instructions for wound care in both the inpatient and outpatient population
- Implements plans to prevent pressure ulcers and other wound types
- Develops and implements plans to treatment of all wounds both inpatient and outpatient
- Initiates performance improvement through the departmental managers with regard to wound prevention to reduce the percentage of patients who develop wound complications or pressure ulcer
- Evaluates Wound Care supply inventory and updates the wound supply product table. Presents any new product request to the P&T committee
- Ensures the wound supply cart is stocked and up to date
- Weekly photographs all (complex) wounds being treated and uploads them to the patient chart
- Weekly evaluates and determines the progress of all complex wounds
- Initiates consultation for any new wound care consult orders (checks clipboard for communication)
- Performs direct patient care for some complex wounds and documents assessments
- Communicates with Providers, Primary nurses and Dieticians regarding patient wounds
- Notify direct supervisor of wounds that:
- Fail to progress as planned
- Have cause for concern
REQUIRED EDUCATION: A Registered Nurse with a BSN or higher; Certification in Wound and Ostomy Care
PREFERRED EDUCATION: BSN from an accredited nursing program
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years experience treating and managing complex wound care in both inpatient and outpatient setting
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: One year professional nursing experience in a hospital setting preferred
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS: Washington State RN license, BLS and ACLS certifications

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Nursing unit and outpatient wound/infusion area
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours

Eligibility Requirements - Employees regularly scheduled at least 20 hours per week.
