CNC Machinist - 2nd shift

We are hiring for our CNC Machinist team in our Cudahy, Wisconsin, Facility. You will be an integral part of a successful team responsible for producing products and machined components in military, aerospace, oil/gas, and other applications. This position is responsible for setting up and operating various types and sizes of production machine tools in the machining of forgings or stock to customer requirements and specifications using a variety of cutting tools. The position must be able to use hand tools, measuring instruments, and gauges to ensure proper setups and machining operations. Must also be capable of reading and understanding the Machine NC Code. Responsibilities: Receives machining instructions (MI's), dimensional drawings, same combination tool, 1st piece, inspection sheets, permanent serial cards, test rg cards, serial sheets, load sheets and load summary sheets, setup charts, manufacturing instruction sheets, instructions from department supervision indicating such info as part and operation number is to be performed. Sets up production machine units of various types and sizes by inserting necessary tooling, fixtures, etc., into the machine by referring to setup charts, manufacturing instruction sheets, and/or from experience and supervisor guidance at times. Reads and interprets dimensions drawings, sketches, tool setup charts, and manufacturing instructions in performing required machining operations and setups. Uses TSC and operational drawings to determine required dimensions, travels, and tolerance to be maintained. Selects, inserts, and fastens necessary tooling such as turning, drilling, boring, facing, grooving tools, etc. to hex and turret tool posts required for the various machining operations. Uses various hand tools such as crescent, open end, spanner, allen wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, mallets, and others in performing setups. Shovel chips and run crane as necessary. Operates various types of production machine units in the machining of forgings made from various types of metal such as carbon, stainless steel, chrome-nickel, Inconel, titanium, etc. Machines forging to close tolerance, e.g., /-.001, and may be required to polish machined surfaces using proper abrasive to obtain required finishes conforming to customer specifications. Must keep control of chip identity along with the stock expeditor. Loads and unloads pieces, and hitches for crane operator. Sets feeds and speeds on the machine from manufacturing instruction sheets, from instructions of supervisor, or from experience to conform with sound machining practices. Applies coolant lubricant and changes worn or damaged tools as required. CNC machines also use TSC but must also set offsets. Manual uses touch-off to attain sizes required. Resets offsets if a change of tooling (bar, etc.) is done or to fine-tune for free cutting and finishes required. Has working knowledge of machine NC language. Uses precision or standard measuring devices such as scales inside and outside micrometers, dial indicators, vernier scales, fixed frame gauges or special gauges, profile meters, etc. to check machined dimensions and surface finishes conforming to customer prints and/or specifications. Exercises care in handling material before or after the machining operation. Records necessary information to log sheet denoting part, serial, heat code numbers, critical dimension, etc. following established practices. Is responsible for the operator certification stamp assigned to him and it must be entered on the permanent serial card (pink card). Capable of performing work as described in the IAMAW labor agreement for a production machine operator trainee. This will be a 2nd shift schedule. Monday-Friday 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Training will be on the 1st shift. Basic Requirements: Completion of Production Machine Operator Training Program OR a minimum of 3 years of CNC machinist experience Minimum of 1-year experience setting up CNC machinery Preferred Qualifications: Experience running manual CNC machinery Crane experience Required Skills: Ability to read and interpret drawings and prints Ability to understand dimensions Basic understanding of loading CNC programs onto a controller Use of measuring tools such as Indicators, Calipers, etc. Ability to read code Ability to perform physical labor Willingness to learn We thrive when the expectations are great, and the barriers are high.
