The Resident Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for overseeing mechanical engineering activities on-site for a large-scale industrial project. This role involves ensuring that all mechanical systems and equipment are designed, installed, tested, and maintained in compliance with project specifications, codes, and safety standards. The position requires hands-on experience in managing mechanical works, coordination with contractors, and providing technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities: Project Oversight: o Supervise the installation and commissioning of mechanical systems, including HVAC, piping, and rotating equipment. o Monitor project progress and quality, ensuring adherence to design specifications, safety standards, and deadlines. o Conduct on-site inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with engineering plans and local codes. Design & Engineering: o Review and interpret mechanical design drawings, schematics, and blueprints. o Provide technical support and recommendations for mechanical designs, modifications, and improvements. o Coordinate with the design team for any adjustments or clarifications needed based on site conditions. Contractor Coordination: o Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless project execution. o Ensure that contractors adhere to project specifications, quality standards, and safety protocols. o Review and approve work completed by subcontractors and provide feedback as necessary. Quality Assurance & Control: o Implement and monitor quality control processes for mechanical installations. o Conduct regular inspections, audits, and testing of mechanical systems to ensure compliance. o Document and resolve any discrepancies or non-conformities identified during inspections. Safety Compliance: o Enforce compliance with OSHA and local safety regulations. o Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments for mechanical works. o Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to promote a safe working environment. Documentation & Reporting: o Maintain detailed project records, including daily reports, inspection reports, and test results. o Prepare and present progress reports, technical summaries, and updates to the project management team. o Manage project documentation, including as-built drawings and operation manuals. Commissioning & Handover: o Oversee the testing and commissioning of mechanical systems, ensuring optimal performance. o Coordinate with the client and project stakeholders for system handover and final acceptance. o Provide training and support to the client's operation and maintenance teams as needed. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Experience: Minimum of 8-12 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 3 years in a similar role in industrial projects. Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. OSHA safety certification is an advantage. Skills: o Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, HVAC, piping, and industrial machinery. o Proficiency in using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera). o Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. o Strong communication and coordination abilities. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Project Milestones Achievement: o Target: 95% of project milestones achieved on or before the scheduled deadlines. o Metric: Number of milestones completed on time vs. total project milestones. Quality of Work: o Target: 98% of mechanical installations meet quality and design specifications on the first inspection. o Metric: Number of quality issues or non-conformities identified during inspections. Safety Compliance: o Target: Zero safety incidents or violations reported. o Metric: Number of safety violations, incidents, or OSHA non-compliance issues on-site. Budget Adherence: o Target: Mechanical work completed within 5% of the allocated budget. o Metric: Actual spending on mechanical components vs. budgeted amount. Equipment Uptime During Commissioning: o Target: Achieve 98% uptime of mechanical systems during testing and commissioning. o Metric: Downtime hours of mechanical systems during the commissioning phase. Contractor Performance: o Target: 90% of subcontractor work meets quality standards without rework. o Metric: Number of instances requiring rework or adjustments due to subcontractor issues. Timely Resolution of Issues: o Target: 90% of identified issues or discrepancies resolved within 48 hours. o Metric: Average time taken to resolve on-site issues after identification. Client Satisfaction: o Target: Achieve a minimum satisfaction score of 85% from client feedback during project reviews. o Metric: Feedback scores from client surveys or meetings. Working Conditions: This role requires significant time on-site at the industrial project location in Denver, CO. May involve occasional lifting, climbing, and working in varying environmental conditions. Regular travel within the site and to local suppliers may be necessary.
