The Family Office Management group at Bessemer Trust, which provides operational and administrative services to ultra-high net worth families, trusts, and foundations, is actively recruiting an experienced accountant to serve as an Accounting Manager in its Woodbridge, New Jersey office. The primary focus of this position will be to manage some of the department's more complex accounting clients, providing them with accounting and reporting services, and to oversee and review the work of assigned junior staff members. This position requires proven competency in both complex accounting and high end / high touch client service.
Primary Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Reporting:
Analyze and summarize current as well as historical client financial data in order to support the preparation of unaudited statements, including balance sheets, statements of net worth, income statements, budgets, and cash flow statements Provide consolidated statements of financial activity for complex families and their trusts, partnerships, and other entities Respond quickly and professionally to clients' ad hoc analysis and reporting needs Must possess a good understanding of investment accounting, including alternative investments and K-1 data, and will be responsible for overseeing recording of K-1 activity in the books and records Assist with preparation and filing of vendor 1099s on an annual basis Ensure data accuracy and professional presentation of output for assigned clients Must be willing to perform all levels of accounting work directly as needed, especially quality control
Staff Management:
Provide daily guidance and training to any assigned accounting staff at various levels of experience, on all accounting and reporting procedures Coordinate interaction with relevant other service teams (e.g., consolidated reporting, bill pay, HR/payroll) and client advisory teams
Controls & Audit:
Provide leadership in terms of maintaining and enhancing controls / procedures related to client service delivery Proactively incorporate regulatory requirements and operational risk management in all areas with an audit mindset
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance with a minimum of five to seven years relevant work experience CPA required Proficiency in the use of QuickBooks accounting software required Individual and small business accounting experience beneficial Demonstration of a progression in responsibility with direct staff oversight experience Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments for several clients in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to meet deadlines with efficiency and accuracy Demonstrated ability to use tact, discretion, confidentiality and good judgment in handling sensitive and confidential matters and documentation
