As a Manufacturing Engineer at Lumen Orbit, you will be pivotal in designing, developing, and optimizing the manufacturing processes required to build our current and future space-based data centers, from subsystems to AIT. You will oversee the lifecycle of manufacturing components, ensuring high-quality production and rapid, seamless integration onto the spacecraft, collaborating closely with the design team.
Key Responsibilities:- Process Ownership:
- Own and manage manufacturing processes and products for in-house production.
- Drive processes for volume production, including execution, nonconforming product management, configuration management, traceability tracking, and process control.
- New Product Introduction:
- Lead the introduction of new product assemblies, working closely with design engineers and process specialists.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive work instructions, process documentation, and training materials.
- Quality and Optimization:
- Monitor schedules, work-in-progress levels, and defect rates of owned products.
- Identify trends and opportunities for optimizing product output, enhancing quality, and reducing manufacturing costs.
- Implement corrective actions and drive process improvements on owned processes and products.
- Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Work with the Design Engineering team to identify and escalate manufacturing challenges early in product development.
- Collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, and Engineering to optimize manufacturing yields for production ramp.
- Conduct regular build quality reviews to ensure design intent is achieved and identify opportunities for risk reduction and process improvements.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, Electrical) or a related discipline.
- 1+ years of professional experience in manufacturing processes in an aerospace or relevant environment
- Master's degree in Engineering (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, Electrical) or a related discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing or engineering
- Hands-on experience with SMT processing and related manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of statistical techniques and methods such as DOE and IPC manufacturing standards.
- Proficiency with SQL, Python, and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Strong skills in failure analysis, including tools and methods such as X-ray, cross-section, and polishing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data and drive systemic improvements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Manufacturing Engineer/Level I: $100,000 - $120,000 per year
- Manufacturing Engineer/Level II: $115,000 - $135,000 per year
