Senior Coatings Formulation Chemist PPG IndustriesDelaware Ohio As a Senior Coatings Formulations Chemist, you will play a crucial, hands-on role as a formulation chemist within our automotive refinish technical team in Delaware, OH. This position is central to advancing color coat development for Commercial and Light Industrial applications, with a sharp focus on sustainability and addressing materials of concern. You will lead the formulation and testing of new products, managing projects from the lab bench to commercialization. In addition to your technical expertise, you will oversee project management tasks, ensuring that development milestones are achieved on time and within scope. By combining hands-on formulation work with strategic project management, you will drive innovation and contribute to the next generation of coatings technology. Key Responsibilities Lead Color Coat Development Projects: Spearhead the development of color coats for Commercial and Light Industrial color coatings, ensuring alignment with sustainability goals and addressing materials of concern. Innovate and Solve Complex Problems: Develop and implement innovative technical solutions to address challenging problems in product development and commercialization. Manage Experimental Work: Plan, direct, coordinate, and execute experimental tasks to meet project objectives and timelines. Drive Cross-functional Collaboration: Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between global development labs, research teams, marketing teams, production teams, and customers to ensure project success. Apply Methodologies: Utilize Sigma logic methodology for designing experiments and analyzing data, ensuring precision and reliability in outcomes. Support Customers and Production: Provide timely and expert support to resolve customer and production-related issues, contributing to overall satisfaction and operational efficiency. Share Knowledge and Expertise: Regularly disseminate knowledge and technical expertise within the team and across departments to foster innovation and continuous improvement. Prioritize and Manage Projects: Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks based on evolving priorities and deadlines to ensure timely delivery. Ensure Continuous Learning and Improvement: Engage in continuous personal and team development to maintain cutting-edge knowledge and improve processes. Maintain Documentation: Keep an accurate and detailed electronic laboratory notebook to ensure all work is well-documented and easily referenced. Promote Safety and Cleanliness: Maintain a safe and organized work environment, adhering to safety protocols and best practices. Qualifications Educational Background: PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science with a minimum of 2 years of industrial experience. Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science with a minimum of 5 years of industrial experience. Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science with a minimum of 15 years of industrial experience. Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of coating formulation techniques and testing procedures, with a focus on color coat development for commercial and light industrial applications. Team Player: Must be collaborative, willing to share credit, and work in a team environment. Formulation Skills: Technical expertise in formulation, with an emphasis on sustainable materials and addressing materials of concern.
