*Chemist I or II * Bureau of Water Resource Information **Job Summary: This is professional work involving routine and complex chemical analysis and operation of analytical equipment in an environmental analytical chemistry laboratory. Job duties include: Performs analyses of water samples using auto analyzer, discrete analyzer, inductively coupled plasma spectrometer, titrimetric, gravimetric, direct reading and spectrophotometric methods; prepares reports and maintains records for the assigned analyses; prepares reagents and standards needed to conduct assigned analyses. Data reduction: performs preliminary statistical analysis of laboratory data including quality assurance, trend analysis, historical ranges and interrelationships with other parameters; maintains computerized records of water quality data and sample data management; using the Laboratory Information Management Software (LIMS, PREPPY...etc.); loading approved data to Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) using LIMS applications and Excel spreadsheet applications. Analyzes quality control samples; performs quality assurance tasks; documents quality assurance data and activities for assigned analyses; attests to and certifies quality assurance tasks and activities that are regulatory and legal mandates (See 64E-1 Florida Administrative Code for example) have been performed as required. Performs and documents maintenance and troubleshooting procedures for assigned instruments. Minimum Qualifications:[]{#page total master0}[]{#page_total} Chemist I require a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, limnology, botany, zoology, environmental science, or related field. A chemistry degree is preferred. Chemist II requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, limnology, botany, zoology, environmental science, or a field directly related to analytical chemistry and two years professional experience in laboratory analysis. A chemistry degree is preferred. Comparable professional experience can substitute on a year-for-year-basis for the required college education. SJRWMD has determined this to be a mandatory-testing position as described in Section 440.102, Florida Statutes. Any offer of employment for a mandatory-testing position will be contingent upon successfully passing a drug screening paid by SJRWMD. Working Conditions: Work in lab wearing lab coat, gloves and eye protection as required by Chemical Hygiene Plan and Standard Operating Procedures; may stand for long periods of time, performs tasks with equipment set-up in a flume hood; lift and carry, safely manage toxic and hazardous chemicals.
