GENERAL PURPOSE: The Sr. Technology Licensing Specialist will promote and support the University’s intellectual property programs including assurance of University compliance with regulations, disposition of technology disclosures, and marketing and support for technology transfer activities. The Sr. Technology Licensing Specialist will research and make recommendations regarding disposition of technology disclosed to the University, assist with the authorization of patent filings when appropriate, assist in drafting, negotiating and maintaining license agreements, and advise the University community on compliance requirements in technology transfer. The Sr. Technology Licensing Specialist will have the responsibility for maintaining contact with University personnel at all levels including anyone with inventive technology to disclose and coordinate with appropriate deans, department chairs and research administrators as necessary. The Sr. Technology Licensing Specialist will have contact with external patent counsel and industrial representatives in the technology marketing efforts. Additionally, the person will have contact with various federal and other sponsor personnel in assuring compliance with regulation. ESSENTIAL TASKS: Under general supervision from the Associate Vice President, or Senior Licensing Manager(s) and with latitude for independent judgment: Receives, reviews and takes appropriate action on technology invention disclosures. Assist in the management of patent application filings and maintenance (20%) Conducts research and prepares reports regarding the patentability and economic value of inventions. (15%) Markets University technologies by promoting the University’s intellectual property (IP) and technology commercialization programs. (25%) Assists with the drafting, negotiations and maintenance of license agreements (20%) Assist ORPA with Research Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements and Confidentiality Agreements (10%) Serves as a resource for faculty on intellectual property matters (10%) NON-ESSENTIAL TASKS: Assumes responsibility for special projects and studies. Develops or coordinates the development of URV-URMC educational tools or assists with the development of University-wide or internal policies. Assists in presentations and training workshops to the University community regarding technology transfer and small business formation. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in the sciences, plus 3-5 years experience in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer but not required: education/experience in biomedical engineering, chemistry and biology. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
