Position Type: Substitute/Substitute Nurse Date Posted: 10/16/2024 Location: District-wide Closing Date: on going   Additional Information: Show/Hide SCHOOL DISTRICT OF SUWANNEE COUNTY SUBSTITUTE SCHOOL NURSE SALARY: $25.00 Per Hour~RN $16.00 LPN (or per the 2024-2025 Salary Schedule) JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS: * Registered Nurse certification preferred; Bachelor's Degree preferred. * Current First Aid/CPR Certification. * Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience. * Valid Florida License for Registered Nurse. * Or other appropriate certificates/licenses required by the District. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to work one-on-one with a student, meeting special needs as assignment requires. Ability to interpret medical records. Ability to use confidential information appropriately. Positive interpersonal skills. Knowledge of current trends, research and best practices relating to school nursing. Knowledge of federal, state and district rules, regulations and policies as they relate to job functions. Skill in reading, interpreting and applying information in technical manuals and other documents. Skill in handling constituents problems, concerns and emotional distress with sensitivity and tact. Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimum supervision. Ability to compose correspondence and prepare reports in an articulate manner. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to tolerate highly stressful situations. REPORTS TO: School Principal JOB GOAL To assess health needs and provide direct health services/consultations to students, enhancing the educational process and potential for each student. SUPERVISES: N/A PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Service Delivery * (1) Administer and evaluate health screenings as scheduled. * (2) Assist in the taking of prescribed medication by students and maintain required records. * (3) Monitor students placed on new medication per doctor's orders. * (4) Assess student health needs and provide first aid within the scope of licensure. * (5) Assist in completing health room cards and keeping records on students referred to the clinic. * (6) Communicate with parents/staff regarding student health problems and refer to Public Health Nurse as needed. * (7) Assist in the establishment of a cumulative health record on each student, document identified problems and corrective measures and update as needed. * (8) Assist in the implementation of the annual School Health Services Plan and completion of data for the Annual Report. * (9) Handle physician's orders for medications and transcribe onto the medication sheet. * (10) Maintain clinic area and supplies as appropriate. * (11) Ride school bus with specific medically fragile students when assigned. Inter/Intra-Agency Communication and Delivery * (21) Act as school liaison to medical providers of students at the school. * (22) Submit nursing services records as required by the state and/or federal law. * (23) Communicate effectively with staff and vendors. * (24) Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events. * (25) Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner. System Support * (26) Participate as a member of health and safety-related committees and professional organizations. * (27) Assist with an operational plan for the management of emergency health needs, including critical incident plans for disasters. * (28) Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records. * (29) Follow all School Board policies, rules and regulations. * (30) Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member. * (31) Demonstrate support for the School District and its goals and priorities. (32) Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position. (33) Shall assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force as needed to move objects. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
