Looking for a Staff Systems Engineer to lead our new Micro Reactor Control efforts at our Charlottesville, Virginia or Sykesville, Maryland locations. This exciting role offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of innovation in nuclear energy, where you'll help develop and characterize reactor and power conversion system behaviors, ensuring capabilities, constraints, and interactions with other systems are fully understood and optimized.

As a key member of our team, you’ll have the chance to lead the steady-state and transient analyses of nuclear reactors and power conversion cycles. If you have a deep understanding of reactivity controls and experience in MATLAB/Simulink development for nuclear power plant applications, this is the ideal role for you. Your nuclear operational plant experience will be essential as you collaborate with a team of experts to push the boundaries of what's possible in the energy sector.



What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Lead Analysis Workflows: Collaborate with Discipline Leads and Systems Engineers to develop robust analysis workflows and document them in an analysis plan according to the Quality Assurance (QA) program.

  • Modeling and Simulation: Establish and perform plant modeling using MATLAB/Simulink. Your models will support key areas such as component sizing, operating range studies, design-by-analysis, performance verification, and accident analyses.

  • Propose Innovative Solutions: Offer design/control solutions to system engineers based on insights drawn from your analyses.

  • Document Your Work: Prepare clear and concise reports documenting your models and analysis findings.



Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field (e.g., Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering) with 12+ years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 10+ years of experience, or a PhD with 8+ years of experience.

  • U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

  • Strong knowledge of reactivity control in nuclear systems.

  • Proven experience working with or for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) or in commercial nuclear operations.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Secret Clearance.

  • Advanced degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.

  • MATLAB/Simulink development experience, with the ability to create and modify models for complex nuclear and power systems.

  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C#, C++, Python, VisualBasic, or MATLAB.

  • Knowledge of industrial process control and control theory.

  • Practical experience with power systems, thermal energy equipment, or industrial plants.

  • Familiarity with NQA-1 Quality Requirements and regulatory compliance.



Pay Details: $117.00 per hour
