Field Environmental Technician - Freeport, TX

Jacobs is currently seeking an Environmental Technician. The position will support a variety of field and technical project tasks, primarily in industrial chemical facilities around the Texas Gulf Coast. Based in Freeport, Texas, your tasks will include a mix of field work (90%) and office work (10%). We’re seeking someone entry level or with minimal experience within an Industrial/Chemical environment. Based on performance, there is an opportunity for career progression and development into a local team leadership role. Typical field work tasks include: • Sampling groundwater and potentially other various mediums (soil, sediment, surface water, soil gas, air, etc.) • Obtaining water level measurements • Inspecting groundwater remediation systems • Completing field paperwork and documenting activities on site • Observing subcontractors (drillers, surveyors, etc.) • Troubleshooting equipment failures (pumps, generators, air compressors, water quality meters, photoionization detectors (PIDs), etc.) and/or elevating and communicating repair needs • Interacting with our clients Typical office tasks include: • Data entry • Coordination/ logistics for field efforts • Sample packaging and shipping • Health/ safety/ compliance-oriented, desktop tasks • Attendance of tailgate meetings at 7am (Monday through Thursday) in Freeport, Texas • Attendance of other in-person and Teams-based meetings as needed. It is a requirement to complete tasks within schedule and budget and communicate the status of tasks to project managers. The physical and environmental demands required to perform the essential duties of this position include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance, and agility demands, which may include the ability to stoop, kneel, squat, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements. Additional demands may involve a specific level of dexterity, grip strength, climbing and cardiorespiratory demands. The work areas may be indoors, outdoors, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous exposures. Bring your positivity, attention to detail, willingness to learn, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and we’ll help grow what drives you - to deliver the best environmental solutions, together. • Entry level to minimal experience within an Industrial/Chemical environment. • Experience with using Microsoft Office-based software. • 40-hr HAZWOPER certification OR ability to obtain and maintain. • Be physically fit to perform fieldwork within industrial facilities up to 90% of the time, and wear a respirator (half-face, full face, or escape respirator), if required. • Ability to follow explicit directions as described in multi-step procedures. • A valid driver’s license with no major infractions; must be able to pass a MVR/motor vehicle record pre employment screen. • Ability to participate in a random drug testing program, including hair follicle samples. • TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) OR ability to obtain and maintain. • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time. Ideally, You’ll Also Have: • Associate degree OR 1-2 years of formal technical training. • Currently located in the Lake Jackson area/ lower Brazoria County. • Experience with sampling groundwater or willingness to train on sampling other environmental mediums (soil, waste, concrete, and surface water). • Experience with installation, operation, and/or maintenance of remediation technologies. • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and work collaboratively with internal team members and client facility stakeholders.
