This Opportunity WSP is currently seeking an Early Career Geologist for our growing Madison, Wisconsin office with an anticipated start date of March 2025. We seek candidates who are interested and knowledgeable in environmental characterization and remediation of contaminated soil, groundwater, soil vapor, and sediments. We seek individuals who enjoy working in a highly collaborative, supportive team with regular mentoring. While this position is at the entry-level, we have a good track record of providing meaningful growth and advancement opportunities for new hires. Your Impact Learn to identify potential environmental concerns at a client property from desktop review of a variety of information sources and a site reconnaissance in support of an ASTM Practice E 1227-21. Become knowledgeable in various environmental drilling, monitoring well and vapor point installation, and field sampling and testing procedures for various environmental media in varied geologic settings. Coordinate field activities and schedules with property owners, subcontractors, laboratories, and oversee various contractors while conducting site investigation and remediation work on client properties. Assist in the evaluation and interpretation of hydrogeologic and chemical data, and in the preparation of project plans and technical reports. Work in a variety of locations across the United States during field assignments that often require multiple overnight stays within the project locale. The position may entail approximately 50% field work and 50% office work Participate in training events, project meetings, and engineering team meetings. Work and travel safely, follow company and site safety standards, maintain training certificates. Learn and practice company codes for ethics and business conduct. Develop and maintain vendor and other professional contacts. Obtain and maintain professional memberships, licenses, and certifications. Some fieldwork may require working with hazardous materials and in hazardous conditions. Grow as a consultant, demonstrating ability to manage multiple projects at one time while building successful client relationships. Who You Are Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Geology or Hydrogeology. 0 to 1 years of experience in an environmental consulting or related practice. Excellent research skills with analytical mindset. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated academic performance in basic and applied sciences, with interest in interdisciplinary applications. Familiarity with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products. Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements. Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience. Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives. Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the WSP's driving policy Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree or PhD in Environmental Science, Geology or Hydrogeology. A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
