Junior/Assistant Specialist- DelRosso Lab
Description
We are seeking a Junior or Assistant Specialist to join the DelRosso laboratory at UCSF. In this position, you will contribute to developing new high-throughput technologies for understanding and controlling gene expression. You will gain expertise in molecular biology, mammalian cell line engineering, and biophysics.
This position offers a unique opportunity for a highly motivated and curiosity-driven researcher to be the first trainee in a new lab and work on cutting-edge molecular technologies. This is an excellent training opportunity for those interested in attending graduate school in Bioengineering, Biophysics, Genetics, or other biology related programs, as you will be involved in designing projects from the ground-up, co-authoring papers, and receiving direct mentorship on your long-term career goals.
In this position, you will:
- Use high-throughput molecular biology techniques, such as Golden gate assembly, lentiviral delivery, DNA isolation, and NGS sample prep.
- Conduct flow cytometry and fluorescence activated cells sorting (FACS)-based experiments.
- Maintain an organized and detailed lab notebook.
- Learn to develop a high degree of independence with research planning, execution, analysis, troubleshooting, and data interpretation.
- Present at group meetings and seminars.
Requirements (at time of hire)
- Have a strong work ethic and passion for science.
- Individuals appointed at the Junior rank must possess a bachelor's degree or at least four years of equivalent research experience in bioengineering, biophysics, or cell & molecular biology. Individuals appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master's degree or a bachelor's degree with three or more years of experience demonstrating expertise in bioengineering, biophysics, or cell & molecular biology.
- Have had two or more summer research experiences (40 hours/week) and at least one sustained research experience during the academic school year (10 hours/week for more than one year) or have contributed to a peer-reviewed publication.
Preferred qualifications (at time of hire)
- Have had two or more years of experience with standard cell & molecular biology techniques including cloning, PCR, sample preparation for Sanger sequencing, and mammalian cell culture and transfections.
