Our Burlington brand is looking to fill the position of Research and Development Chemist based out of its manufacturing operation in Burlington, NC.
Job Overview
The R&D Chemist will be responsible for R&D projects including carrying out sampling, testing, measuring, recording and analyzing of results as part of a scientific team. In addition, will be responsible and serve as an analytical chemist with hand on experiments with chemistry equipment such as HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, FTIR and mass spectroscopy analysis. Will provide all the required technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively, while adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines. The position will involve in a variety of laboratory-based investigations within biological, chemical and physical testing aspects. This job operates in laboratory and manufacturing environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor or Masters degree in Chemistry or related university degree with analytical chemistry
- At least 3 years' experience with a manufacturing laboratory using LC/MS, HPLC, GC/MS, UV-Vis, SEM etc.
- Understanding of organic and inorganic chemistry
- Develops chemical formulations under the guidance of Director of Emerging Chemistries
- Ability to apply chemicals, dye fabric, color assessment
- Ability to assistance with small details to fill out paperwork and collect samples
- Chase progress to develop data for marketing literature
- Accurately conducting complex analytical tests on fabric sample
- Testing processes, finished products, and raw materials to determine quantity and quality of characteristics or materials of a substance.
- Adjusting, setting up, maintaining and cleaning laboratory equipment.
- Recognizing erroneous outcomes, reporting them immediately, and ensuring all sampling methodologies or processes are well controlled and documented
- Understand mathematical computations, graphs, and charts, must have an aptitude for math (percentages, decimals, pre-algebra)
- Should be detail oriented and organized
- Perform lab duties including textile tests according to ISO, AATCC, ASTM, etc standards
- Follow up with suppliers and fill out the procedural forms to bring chemistry for experimentation
- Prior work experience within the textile field preferred
