Position Summary
Performs a variety of technical and administrative duties concerning specific clinical research studies.
Job Responsibilities
Arranges patient follow-up visits on an out-patient basis, or checks on hospitalized patients to assess optimal quality of care. Assesses any effects of study drug and implements appropriate nursing intervention in the event of any adverse reaction.
Assesses patient eligibility for inclusion in specific investigational studies uses knowledge of study drug (action and side affects) and protocol requirements to educate patients and staff.
Assists physician in preparing IRB documents and maintains correspondence with sponsoring company/agency and IRB.
Assures strict adherence to study requirements by all personnel involved with patients according to guidelines set forth in protocols.
Collaborates with principal investigator in organizing and compiling data for future presentations and publications.
Coordinates and educates patient and medical personnel as to required follow-up tests to be performed according to protocol; prepares initial IRB documents and subsequent follow-up correspondence; monitors patients' response to study medications.
Ensures optimal quality of medical care for patients participating in study; uses ethical conduct as established for healthcare personnel; assists in formation of educational aids and manuals as reference framework for patients and staff as necessary.
interacts with pharmacist to ensure proper timing of drug preparation and reviews volumes to be administered; monitors and/or administers study drug according to schedule outlined in protocol.
Maintains accurate records of study and patients' status. Assists with study sponsors audit.
Reviews patient history and abstracts. Records appropriate pre-study laboratory data and arranges necessary scans, x-rays, etc. Makes certain informed consent is understood by patient, signed and on file prior to initiation of study.
Education
Associate's Degree in Nursing
Experience
Up to one year of post-degree course work and/or an internship and less than one year of previous experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be articulate and possess a professional demeanor.
Licenses and Certifications
Current NY State Registered Nurse License & Registration.
BLS Certification (issued by the American Heart Association)
Infection Control Certificate
