Position Summary:
SafeInsights is a transformative national education research platform project led by Rice University and OpenStax, in collaboration with top edtech platforms and schools, SafeInsights is redefining the education research landscape by making powerful research accessible for a wide range of scientists, maximizing research's potential to improve learning, and prioritizing the protection of student privacy.
We are looking for an experienced UX Designer with a broad range of UX skills who is passionate about education and user experience! As a UX Designer, you will participate in strategic and tactical user research to help our product teams understand what SafeInsights' users (UX researchers, digital learning platforms, educational institutions, etc) need so that educational researchers can conduct impactful studies using data and learning interfaces from various current and future educational technology and education institutional partners. You will incorporate these insights to design and evaluate tools, features, and interfaces and work closely with other designers, product managers, and our product technical teams to build useful, usable, and effective tools. You will also conduct user testing and evaluate implementations.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. *Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.
This position is funded by a grant, soft and/or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of funding.
Telecommuting is permissible within Harris County Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). Per Rice policy 440 work arrangements may be subject to change.
Required Qualifications :
Master's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience (UX) Design, or a closely related field. Two (2) years of experience as a User Experience or Digital Designer. Must include experience with each of the following:
One (1) year of experience with user research, visual design, interaction design, and user testing. One (1) year of experience with Photoshop, Balsamiq, Sketch, Figma, wireframing, ideation, prototyping, and branding.
Essential Functions:
Work with clients to understand the end-users' expected experience and outcomes. Communicate the user experience at various stages of the design process by developing wireframes, flow diagrams, storyboards, mockups, and/or high-fidelity prototypes. Research, evaluate, and enforce web standards for usability and accessibility. Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to understand requirements and provide creative, thoughtful solutions. Ability to communicate complex concepts to different stakeholders and influence product design strategy. Integrate user feedback and business requirements into ongoing product updates and craft solutions that are user-centered and increase value for OpenStax users. Performs all other duties as assigned
