Summary This position is located in the Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), Alaska Region (AR), Systems Operations Division (SOD), Systems Integration Branch (SIB) with one vacancy in Anchorage, Alaska. Responsibilities As an IT Specialist (CUSTSPT), you will perform the following duties: Lead and support hardware and software installation, and maintenance of network accounts. Manage, plan and deliver customer support services. Troubleshoot complex hardware and software systems. Coordinate with other system administrators for cybersecurity projects to ensure system security. These duties are described at the full performance to the GS-12; the GS-11 is developmental leading to such performance. Requirements Conditions of Employment In accordance with DoD 8140.01, expected to obtain and maintain an entry level certification such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft 365 Fundamentals, or Red Hat Certified System Administrator within 12 months of employment. Position requires continuing education and minimum industry standard Windows and security certifications such as MTA, MCSA, Server+, Security+, and GSEC. It is highly desirable to obtain/maintain advanced certifications such as MCSE and CASP+ A one year probationary period may be required. Payment of relocation expenses is not authorized. This position is in the bargaining unit. This position is covered by NWSEO 1538. Key Requirements: Applicants must be U.S. Citizens. To qualify at the GS-11 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to meeting the IT competencies above, applicants must also possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Participating in the coordination and the installation of testing, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of hardware and software systems; and Assisting with resolving problems with software, hardware and systems management. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. (Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.) To qualify at the GS-12 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to meeting the IT competencies above, applicants must also possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Performing installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of hardware and software systems; and Providing customer support and solutions to issues. Education Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the above requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
